QF points seem largely useless for Perth dwellers?

Except you can't UPGRADE on any of those airlines. So you are faced with using all your points + a bazillion $$ in taxes...

You can't seriously suggest that upgrade awards are that much better, particularly when you only had one route from PER anyway - that again seems such a QF mentality to have, there are how many thousand airports in the world and you can no longer upgrade to just one?!

-If you're upgrading you're still paying all those taxes, you're not magically avoiding them all unless FDing.

-To upgrade QF internationally you had to purchase a higher fare class than base economy so again more $$$

-Upgrades last I checked cost more now

-Finally on QF it comes down to some BS lottery where after they've taken all your money you find out no upgrade for you on the day. To be fair my success rate over the years has been 100% but I always hear the complaints... Still MH/CX you can know 100% before calling or going into the office.

So your upgrade option costs much more cash and is it really that fewer points? ADL/PER-SIN did once have a great 25k Y-J upgrade which is chicken feed. It does of course depend what sort of traveller you are, everyone keeps talking about domestic which hasn't changed much at all.

I won't say a flight will cost all my points but I'd certainly agree QF points are worthless and awards cost a lot (on top of high taxes), but the question was specifically is life over for a QFF member based in Perth and the underlying answer yet again seems to be QF is pants and their loyalty program rubbish in general, but no to the original question ;)

Also it would certainly be nice if *O had a similar system to *A but I wouldn't hold my breath for it!

Not that i'm complaining in the least, but I don't understand how Perth to Melb is 36000 in J when Kalgoorlie-Perth-Melb is 36000 also.

Will depend on the distance calculation, which can differ depending on the booking method and who is booking it (when over the phone), however I assume the two routings fall under the same mileage tier/zone. Unsure about PER since I only ever routed that way on cash fares but SIN-SYD used to be a higher tier than SIN-SYD-ADL, awards were 60k and 50k respectively. So in theory you could have done HCT on QF awards, but again taxes. They have silently changed distance calculation methods over time and I'm not sure the current state of play, but I did notice the discrepancies and loopholes were still there when booking a JASA on the final day.

Well I have always used QF points for Y-J or J-F upgrades on QF international. So QF points are pretty much useless to me.

Now that QF international no longer fly out of PER, I have been forced to fly SQ. All my forward bookings are on SQ. All my family's forward bookings are also on SQ. All my credit card spend is now on the CC that earns Krisflyer points. You know what, the sad thing is I don't think I would go back to flying QF international anymore.

Umm.. go figure, there's really no point for me to earn QFF points anymore, since I can't use them how I want to use them.

There's always shopping of fuel vouchers (yes these are better value than toasters :)).

If you don't want them I'll have them??? :)

But there are still uses for some...

From Adelaide I tend to agree. I guess I can always order wine with them..

The question is fundementally are they worth holding onto for a trip in the future sometime or spending now on non flight rewards.
