This may be old news, but Qantas appear to be scrapping bits of animal off the floor of an abattoir and serving it up as 'beef in red wine sauce' in International Economy (QF82 on 4 July to be precise). I had the pleasure of finding an assortment of animal organs in my meal on this sector. What wasn't once a vital piece of anatomy for the animal was instead just fat.

I know meals in Y aren't going to be Michelin starred, but I did have vague expectations of them being above dog food. Qantas appear to be literally dredging the bottom of the barrel.

Photo of this culinary masterpiece has been forwarded to Qantas Customer Care for their 'review'.

Yes Economy meals are pretty ordinary. Would you mind posting the photos on here as well?

Sure, here's one. Any vets around that might be able to identify the 'bits'? :)

That is gross
I'll add that dish to my Do Not Order List.
I never order chicken in a meal as invariably it is fatty bits of cheap grey meat with the odd bit of skin attached but I think that dish above is even worse
:!:

Yuck, they must go buy all the scraps from the local butchers, mix it all together and hope for the best!

On my recent trip SYD-HKG had some type of beef and red wine thing too, I remember chewing on the meat and have to spit half of it back into the container, in the end I just got the red wine juice and mixed it with the mashed potato/veges and ate that.

Surely we should be expecting better from Q catering?

....as a vet......can see a large artery sticking out from a lump of fat....more dried shrivelled fat on the surface of other pieces.....etc etc etc.

This stuff should have been cut off at the butcher / processor; obviously they have the cheapest cut from the cheapest supplier and then cut it all up without any trimming. It won't kill you but is unappetising.... and not what I would expect, even in 'cattle' class.

Does anyone else find that the quality of even the cut fruit 'salad' has gone down hill. I find they cut alot of fruit right to the 'skin' now to maximise fruit and lower cost?
Also looks like they pour a splash of orange juice in the bottom of the fruit salad container, is this so it can be kept fresh for longer? I don't like eating the melon's after they have a taste of cheap orange juice.

Thanks for getting in touch with Customer Care about this. They'll be able to follow up with the relevant catering teams and respond accordingly. Please let me know if they haven't replied by the end of the week.

That's the bit that makes me gag every time I look at that photo ... and don't get me wrong I'm the kind of guys that sucks the meat/fat off the bone. It reminds me of the pies from my school canteen, complete with rat's tails (which I now know were just big old arteries, but at the time ...)

That is truly gross...I thought only pies were made from "lips and a$$-----", looks like Qantas has taken it to the next level. I wonder if the FAs know what they are handing out. Must be embarrassing for them.

I have had some shockers across all airlines (the choice of breakfast out of KUL on MH springs to mind).
I actually did enjoy the chicken and leek pie that was on QF78 late last year.
However I do agree the standard of catering has fallen within the last 4-5 years or so

Doesn't SQ do QF's catering ex-SIN?

That is absolutely disgusting. Glad you took a photo and QF are reviewing.

That is a cut of meat beyond poor...one does not expect marbled wagyu in Economy but a decent cut of leanish beef is not too much to expect.
