Just wondering if people do answer the offers of 'I am in the lounge " ?
I have offered a couple of times but no success. Sadly also no one else in the lounge comments they are there

After reading this thread I decided I wouldn't guest total strangers (bossreggie), but I have guested people I've chatted with on flights or random people I've shared a cab with from hotel to airport. This way you at least get a chance to see if they are insane beforehand! :)

@defurax gather it wasnt good at all.
Perhaps guessing may not be the way after all
Like you I have chatted in line at check in and have guested in

Once was an elderly lady in Tokyo. She had a lifetime purchased gold card but loved the first class lounge
Another time when my husband and I were leaving New York chatted with the two gentlemen in queue , one early thirties and one in his late 70s , they were very grateful as our flight ended up being six or 8 hours delayed. Ended up with quite a good group in the lounge

I recently flew MEL-SYD on a JQi flight. As I was walking past the service desk after checking in, the staff called out to me and asked if I could help guide a passenger who didn't speak much English through the immigration process for a domestic flight. I ended up taking him as a guest to the First Class lounge and even asked him to follow me on the T bus from SYD international to domestic as his relatives were mistakenly waiting for him there...

I'd happily guest others from this forum into the lounge because I have got so much from this forum. I usually put my flights in there but never had anyone take it up. Others here have guested my friends in which I've really appreciated

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

AFF Supporters can remove this and all advertisements

Is it my imagination or has the removal of the wiki in the weeks before the recent upgrade led to a decline in offers?
Despite the lack of a wiki at the top of a thread, the tables still exist and are updated every week with new flights. There actually weren't many members who updated the wiki as it took some know how and you needed to have reached certain criteria, but we do want to find a collaborative solution for the future again... something a bit easier too!

I've guested many AFFers over the years. Usually organise via PM and swap phone numbers.

I will never forget the day I was guested into the BNE F lounge at the time by @QF WP on Boxing Day 2005 and I've been repaying the favour since.

Met @Mal for first time in ADL lounge in 2006, @boomy in BNE lounge in 2013 and I think met @AIRwin and guested into KUL lounge same year.

The funniest is when you bump into people you know in lounges when meeting was unplanned such as @nlagalle in SIN lounge and recongnising a voice in the HKG Qantas lounge and turning around and it was @Awesom Andy.

Also ended up sitting in 43H on 747 BNE-SIN and surprised to see @Brisbane Flyer sitting in 43K.

Many other examples. It's a small world.

I've guested in plenty of AFF and FT'ers in my 20+ years in the FF game. I've never had anybody go rogue on me and nor should they - I've got some clout ;)

Whether they stay and chat, or have work to do (or I do) at the very least, a thank you is sufficient and a drink welcome. sometimes the exchange of information/ideas (if time permits) shows the breadth of knowledge in our community.

Remember the day very well @JohnK. Back in the day when I was Plat and now the roles have reversed. Paying it forward is what it's all about.

I always put my flights in and hopefully remember to check the relevant months' thread before arrival and like JohnK, PM exchange with mobile means we know when to come out to the QC greeting pods to let the person in - unless meaning landside first.

While I have put my details into the wiki/table, I've still yet to guest anyone in or, or meet up, although it came close a couple of times at Heathrow & Singapore- but I had just left the lounge (sorry @Lowjhg and @Kade Reid)
I think as @QF WP said, it's a matter of paying it forward. We're all on the road for whatever reason, and having a sense of camaraderie and the opportunity to meet new people is always a good thing IMHO

I used to update my travel plans weekly and got to guest plenty AFFers, all of whom were very nice and well behaved. At some point I’ve stopped posting my flights schedule for general security as AFF is an open group and it’s not recommended to give away specific details of travel in open forums on the internet.

I'll sometimes post in the thread and the old wiki. I've met up with @Matt_01, @Dmac6345 and @froggerADL for P1 chats. I don't guest into an F lounge unless we've met .

I had no problem guesting any AFFer who replied to my posts or sent me PM, it was actually good way to meet new people and have some interesting chats, something I miss these days as I’m still spending too much time in lounges.
My main concern is publishing travel details online on an open forum where all kinds of malicious factors troll and can potentially take advantage of this info.

It's all about paying forward. Agree.

I've posted my travel plans in the relevant month threads - haven't been approached so far, but happy to take in people w/ me to Intl. J lounges.

My next 3 trips (one in July and two in August) will be SYD-HKG-MAA and return and happy to take guests.

Just interested in knowing how you think a malicious factors troll can take advantage of the lounge meetup information?
