QF International via Darwin

I have just received my Get ready to fly email from QF, and note they are still promoting use of the IATA travel pass. Anyone used this on recent QF1/2 & 9/10 runs?
Flying later today and have all green “OK TO TRAVEL” once I put in my vaccination certificate and PCR result. It wasn’t the easiest process but none of the pre-departure forms have been. I guess I’ll find out at check-in if my hard work to get it to work was worthwhile!

Sorry, PCR test ? Why do you need a PCR test? I assume it’s a requirement of your destination?

When are you flying? I’m off Wednesday and got a text message yesterday. But no email? I downloaded the app but it’s pretty useless. QF9 isn’t even a listed flight on the app and all I can do is upload my Vaxx certificate and a photo of my ugly mug.
Flying out 2/3, got text yesterday and woke up to the email version today.

You can fly anywhere from anywhere, if you get rid of all the passengers. There is zero point to flying via Darwin, if a spot closer to half way is available. Singapore is the obvious best choice, as it’s the right distance, is a great destination in it’s own right, and has a primary flight routing that would allow you to stay well south. ...
If you really want two equal length segments from Australia to England, the option may already exist. Though MEL has a slightly shorter segment from Australia...
Are these ideal segment lengths?

Have I spent too much time wandering

Would there be a reason that my QF9 booking reference isn’t acknowledged by the IATA app? I’ve got the booking on the Qantas website so nothing wrong with that reference. It says that not all flights / routes available on the app - but I assume this would be one that would be found?

I found the app usable, but hardly high quality. It seemed to get stuck every so often and not give a reason why, and other times just take forever to do things (like verify PCR tests). My only suggestion is to force quit the app or sign out/sign in?

I’ll give that a try.

Thanks!!

If they stop international banking transactions, then there will be no way to pay for any overflights, so nobody will be overflying. That's what stopped flights over Iran for years.

This might well play out by the looks of it. Parts of Russian airspace are being closed.

Im sure QF have contingency plans in place. We'll see which way this mornings QF2/10 route

Does anyone know if the "menu select" is still a thing on these flights? Additionally, are the snack/drink bars on the 787 open again?

At least we have options. If Europe gets way out of control, it's not ridiculously further to fly SYD-LAX-LHR.

With SIN relaxing transit rules, becomes practical to move QF1/2 back to SIN earlier than July, and also have more capacity if that returns the A380 earlier without adding more flights.

Still would need a slight detour. They really have to overfly the UAE and even then they only just clear the Kyiv FIR.

Meant to be flying DRW - LHR on Sunday night, slightly nervous about Russian air space closing, can they go across Indian Ocean then up?

The routing would be left up to the operations side of QF? I’m sure that safety would prevail.
