Hi Gang,

A while ago I was able to get around qantas ridiculous $25 seat selection fee by using Royal Jordanians website to select a seat on a qantas intl flight. I tried this again today and doesn't seem to be possible. Is there any other way to select a seat without being slugged $25?

Thanks

Get yourself Silver status or above, or book in a premium cabin.

The reason I try to maintain Silver status is for this benefit alone - seat selection. As opusman says, unless you buy a premium fare you need at least silver status to pick a seat when you book.

If you think $25.00 is expensive don't fly BA then - they even charge you for J seat selection. If you don't want to pay, then just wait until T-24 & do online checkin.

You need to ask yourself if you'd be happier in a middle seat having saved yourself $25 or whether parting with the cash is worth the peace of mind for knowing that you won't be sitting between two people & have your preferred choice of window or aisle.

It is also a good way of getting the glitches closed by noting them online.

I think your only option here is to part with the $25 or points for seat selection.

Flying BA next week intra-Europe and could book any economy seat for free (incl exit). I'm OWE.

Good luck keeping it if you're anywhere near the front.
BA are notorious for moving the J/Y divider curtain back and shifting adjacent pax.
In fact it's happened to me today, though I did manage to retain a nice forward seat a few days ago.

Even for OWE? Last time I booked J on BA seat selection was free.

+ 1 (in-fact + four) J seats x 2 sectors x 2 passengers booked, allocated but not travelled yet.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Not talking about OWE because if the OP had that status they wouldn't be commenting about having to pay $25 for QF seat selection because it would be free.

Sorry, thought you were just grumbling from personal experience :)

Even at T-24 there could be issues, say if you are doing QF1/9, MMB may get in the way. I recently recommended to my daughter that she pay up and select, rather than find herself in a middle seat on a crowded plane to LA - she took the advice.
