QF Fuel Surcharges... May go down when fuel below $60/barrel for a month

In my opinion, its is difficult to justify a fuel surcharge being different for tickets issued in different places where the variation is any more than just an exchange rate variation. After all, you will contribute the same weight to the aircraft, and the cost of the fuel is the same, no matter if your ticket is issued in Australia or Singapore.

Of course they have the right to change whatever base fare they deem appropriate for tickets issued in any particular place, but to fudge the pricing with fuel fines is inappropriate.

Your experience just goes to show how ridiculous this whole charade of fuel surcharges has become.

Is that pump price or after discounts have been applied?

I paid 102.9c, including 10c Woolworths discount, last week which is the lowest I have paid in a long time.

I guess the time may just about be right for a decrease in domestic fuel surcharge and another review of international surcharges.

In Brisbane, the advertised pump price dropped below $1 for a short period in the last few weeks. I think the best I saw was $96.9 before applying shopping voucher discounts. Back up over a dollar now.

That's 'cause the QLD Govt. subsidises the Pump price (~10cents/litre IIRC).

Without trying to sound antagonist, what “bench mark” crude price would be required for Qantas to completely withdraw the “Fuel Surcharge” – appears to be if the current situation was extrapolated – the Oil price would have to fall to something like MINUS USD $200 per barrel?

Any comments?

As crude oil is continuing to drop we should have seen/heard of further adjustments to the Fuel Surcharge from QF. Time for some pressure again!

I think we have a remote chance, but closer to Buckley's, for QF to completely withdraw the Fuel Surcharge.

Mate you are going to have to move.Last week paid 88.9c with a 6c off woollies voucher.
Back to the fuel surcharges.I may have to make a quick trip to JFK so looking at prices.Rang a discount TA saying I wanted a oneworld airline and was told the cheapest was QF at $2418.I said what about with taxes etc-now $2895.Asked about an AA ticket-oh thats more than $200 dearer at $2649.Yes but what about that after taxes-Geez its $2805.QF still has a way to go.
 
I just booked a ticket yesterday.

Plating on BA (which was the expectation) was going to be AUD4000 base plus "taxes" of AUD789
I managed by chance to get AA to issue the ticket and the cost was the same plus taxes of AUD209

On a fairly straightforward journey from Europe to New Zealand ( via Oz ), BA are still stinging AUD580 in fuel fines posing as taxes

I find that very hard believe. Not the saving part. I find it very hard to believe that this is actually a "fairly straightforward journey from Europe to New Zealand". I suspect most people may use other words to describe the journey :p . I guess it depends on your interpretation of the word "fairly" :rolleyes: . "Straightforward" would normally involve a maximum of 2 transits in each direction :p , so a max of 6 segments for a return ticket. I somehow suspect there may be a few more segments and stopovers involved.
 
Some of us can't remember the last time we only had 2 transfers between here and europe :mrgreen:

NZ1/2 would only be 1 transit point

most recent trip to europe - BCN via SYD, SIN, LHR, AUH, MCT, AUH and LHR
previous trip from europe - FRA via SIN, TPE and SIN
before that RTW visiting africa and asia
before that from europe - FRA via SIN, CGK, SIN, ICN, SIN, CGK and SIN

I really don't think Dave was thinking the UK when he said Europe. In fact I doubt his "Europe" staring point is defined as Europe by anything other than airline continent definitions :p . Most maps and geographers would place it in another continent. I epxect he could get to SYD with a single transit point, but not to NZ.
