The bit on the qantas website about gift vouchers clearly says credit card surcharges do not apply.

"Qantas does not charge a Card Payment fee on Gift Voucher purchases or redemptions."

So it does. Thank you.

I have never liked these "fuel surcharge" Ibelieve they should set their prices to be a "Ticket price"not plus this and plus that etc. Fuel is a major part of a seat price on an aircraft, and IIRC, it was placed on ticket prices initially over and above the (at the time) current Ticket price, during the High oil prices of the 90's. They hedge their fuel prices, (What period of time they set the price for I have no idea, and maybe its a very short period, hence the charge) they sell tickets, they should just set their ticket prices accordingly. This is not directed at Qantas, its just a general rant about something that most airlines do that really gets on my nerves. I know some trucking companies do it too, its plain wrong. (Thats just my simple opinion)

I totally agree. Would make our points more valuable. I wonder when Qantas will start offering to pay taxes/surcharges with points.

A Virgin award SYD-LHR costs 62,500 points + $73 taxes (and no, I haven't left off a zero!). I thought this was too good to be true so I rang them last week and they had availability at that price for 22 and 23 April. That was what I asked for. I was shocked.

I just had a horrible thought. Do Qantas charge you the $7.70 for buyng the gift voucher with a credt card?
No surcharge for purchasing vouchers.

Also, can you use a gift voucher to avoid the $30 fee for an international ticket? And can you use vouchers for ASAs?
I don't know about any seat awards but I did use voucher to pay for BNE-WLG flight. Is New Zealand classed as international? I did not pay the surcharge.

I just did a dummy booking and they ONLY want $7.70 for BNE-AKL. So no, not international.

I'll try booking and international flight with a voucher when I get to work in a few hours. I suspect it'll work fine. Anyway, hassle me if I don't get back with an answer.

Edit: as per Serfty's post valid for flights originating in Oz, including international

The vouchers are valid for any simple one-way our return booking originating within Oz.

This includes international, say Trans-Pacific or to Asia/Europe.

Posted on a wing and a prayer ...

So it might be wise to book before April 12? Looking at points for a holiday to NZ in Sept. The extra "fees and charges and taxes and levies and plus plus" are already $675 for four tickets, how much more will that go up?

I just looked at booking the same today still a day before the supposed increase and the taxes and fees comes to $757.84 (4 PAX) now???

Or I may have originally looked at SYD-WLG AKL-SYD and now it's SYD-AKL-SYD perhaps. Would that make a difference?

Pity we cant use vouchers for JASA where there is a cash component!
