Hi all,

Here is my positive Qantas experience with the recent flight schedule changes on the SYD to CHC route. My original QF flight to CHC was moved from a morning to late QF evening flight with a midnight arrival and the return leg was moved from an afternoon flight to a very early morning QF flight. Travelling with a young family, the midnight flight wouldn't be pleasant to anybody and the return flight would mean missed connections.

A quick phonecall to Qantas had us rebooked onto Emirates flights both ways at no extra cost, leaving at 10am (Aus) and 4pm (NZ), allowing us to keep all other existing bookings.

Looking forward to the 777 experience. From my initial reading of QF Gold FF benefits on a QF coded flight on an Emirates plane, I understand I can use the Emirates business check in counter and either the Emirates lounge with only 1 guest (age 0+) or the Qantas lounge with partner, 2 kids and an infant. Can anyone confirm?

Cheers

At CHC if I remeber correctly EK & QF have used the same independant lounge for some time. It used to be a QF lounge, but then it become independantly operated (Mana?). After extracting yourself from the duty free shopping turn right.

I saw in the SMH today that they had rejigged quite a few of the trans Tasman flights as a result of the Emirates tie up. Certainly both of my SYD- AKL flights in November have been retimed, but only by 30 mins.

I had the same experience, called to change my flights, was booked in Business class, and happy moved at no cost to the codeshare QF on EK metal. The business class product is much better over all on EK except maybe the food and the more formal/slightly less friendly service.

Still so complaints, and, the EK flight had even better times for me.

If in Economy, which I gather you are as you are asking about gold benefits, all I can say is whilst the 777 may be better than a Qantas 737, don't have high expectations, if you do you may be disappointed.

The 777 in particular is cramped, the food they serve down the back is ok, but nothing special and the IFE again is ok but nothing special. With the IFE I thought the IFE on Qantas 747/A380's was heaps better than my experiance on EK 777/A380's, though not sure how it compares to the new IFE that appears on some Qantas 737's including a few on the Tasman runs.

Where EK is a standout is at the front of the bus. Just remember that and all will be good.

PS if you want water on the flight, best to buy a bottle or two in the airport. My long haul experience with EK is they don't provide a bottle and if you ask for a cup, they bring back this small cup with about 150ml of water in it, so doubt it will be any different on the shorter hop to NZ.

looking forward to looking at the schedule for the Trans Tasman flights with the Emirates tie up. At present the schedules with Qantas are nowhere near as convenient as the Virgin / Air New Zealand schedule and I prefer Qantas, but haven't been able to utilise due to poor schedule. I see that the tie up b/w Qantas and Emirates on Trans Tasman has been approved as long as there is no decrease in capacity. That should mean they will co-ordinate their schedules to create a better schedule. Does anyone have a list of the Trans Tasman changes for Emirates and QFF?

For me its the exact oppposite. This change will now see 100% of my MEL-CHC-MEL travel on Virgin- Air NZ (afternoon arrival & departure). QF46 used to link to QF1 and SYD - MEL domestic. Looks as if QF have given the TT and long haui South Island passengers to EK. There is a lot of 06:00 & 07:00am departures from CHC with VA/NZ. Even more now. Those unsociable times are not good for me. Booked Air NZ yesterday

Handy news for those in the west as it allows a same-day QF transit to PER-xSYD-CHC, without taking the red-eye.

Not for me! I liked the red-eye as it gets you in to CHC just after midday. And the return QF46 got you back to Perth mid evening. Not now!!

I currently have a flight booked on xmas eve doing the red-eye and have now been put on the late QF flight. My two hour layover has now turned into a 12.5 hour layover. Nice Christmas present Qantas!

I am the same as Mwenenzi, I will now be looking at Air NZ/Virgin, as I prefer them over EK
