On the QF dom 330s?
I have an I class seat and can't get rows 1 or 3 or 5 on my upgraded 330 this Sat.
Aiming to be closest to window which starts at row 1 then 3 then 5 etc.
Am at row 7 as it is unless an equipment swap occurs.
Row 7 not close to window.

Im guessing you're on QF423 (correct me if I'm wrong, deducing info from the info you supplied above). The only row 1 seat left is 1K and that is blocked for CL and P1s, but you can access them at T-70

Aren't rows 2 and 4 the only ones where the seat is right next to the window? Or am I misunderstanding you?

Either way, keep checking closer to the date of the flight. And if you have Expert Flyer, you can always set a seat alert.

Row 1 is usually not oipen to non-P1 pre-aloocation prior to T-80 in any case. The others could well be occupied or blocked for one reason or another

As others' have stated rows 1,3,5 have the ledge against the window and are close to the aisle, so you don't want them anyway. 2A/K are the better seats IMHO.

Ticket type is not really relevant. Once you have a ticket in J you can pick however status does play a part (eg: row 1 in J - at least on 330's and 737's domestically is usually only open to WP1 prior to T-80).

What is wrong with 2K? I could not choose row 1 for last weeks BNE-SYD flight and this seat turned out to be perfect for views outside.

Totally!

A few months back I managed to wiggle my way onto a flight that EF claimed had 0J available and was handed a BP for 2K. Very sweet. thanks QF!

Enjoyed a lovely set of views from 2A on HKG-MEL in the 333 a couple of weeks ago. Definitely the better seats for window watchers and those who enjoy a bit more privacy from the aisle during the flight :)

The seat maps seem to show that it is rows 2 & 4 with the seat closer to the window (as mentioned) and EF is showing that all single seats (A & K) are occupied with the exception of iK which is blocked for CL/P1 at this stage.
Looks like your row 7 seat is the best at present but check for 1 at T -80 and then if still blocked try again closer to flight.

2A for me every time.
I gather row 4 might be better aligned though for window viewing? Not sure of that as I've only ever been rows 1 to 3 on my handful of refurbed flights.

I now always go for 2A in the new 330 J as you will most likely get the CSM serving you versus 'the novice' when sitting in 2K. The difference between the CSM and 'the novice' can be significant.

I will shift to 1A however (when it becomes available) as the foot space under the bulkhead is far better.

Aha, 1, 3, 5 is the ledge against the window, sorry, thought it was the other way around.
Right, thanks.
My next trip, after this Sat's flight, (when ever that is), I will try a flexJ and see if my way of thinking works.
Will do the OLCI and see what happens.

That's good advice about which seats are likely to be served by the CSM versus the work experience kid.

God speed, poochie.

I don't think the type of ticket would make any difference - seat allocation options before T-80 is based on status. No need to spend the extra $$... ;)

That's what I thought too.

Great tip - didn't know about that.

Have had 2A automatically assigned to me for my MEL-SIN-MEL trips later in the year so very happy about that.

Thanks everyone about the T-80 hours tip off, checked MMB and change my seat option, 4A opened up.
So got myself 4A (moved in MMB).
Will be keeping an eye out just in case they do an equipment swap, but other than that, I will be looking forward to QF J, this is a rev ticket, so will count towards keeping SG this year.

Good news. Hope there's no further equipment changes. Enjoy the flight!

I like the seats against the window too Pooch so my preferences if available are 2A, 4A, 2K, 4K.

As expressed before the ticket type is not relevant to seat allocation availability - it's all about status with QF.

Also agree with being further forward - specially on the longer flights as you probably will get served earlier (and by more senior crew from front galley) so it's better to get the earlier service(specially if on an evening flight or you just want to get going :) ) and have the relative privacy of those seats plus a smidge more quiet the further forward.

Even on a shorter segment like MEL-SYD or SYD-BNE being more forward can mean actually getting a bit of time to eat if one partakes in the meal (or get more than one drink service :) )

in my experience anyway

Loved 4a.
That sash seat belt gives a "special" to the trip.
Odd that straight across the rows above the seats don't match.
4a across the aisle in J becomes 5e.
Anyways now I am sated/satisfied.
Refreshments was a cupcake, glass noodles pulled beef salad with mint and baby lettuce and a bread roll.
Water, red and white wines were available.
All in J, or D class anyway.
