October 2006 I booked a trip to London and return for September 2007. I wanted to travel business class both ways. However, only have been able to get business class on the forward leg and economy on the return. Intended to pay the additional 5000 points to upgrade the return to business when the seat were released. However, it is now July and still no business class seats released for the return journey. I find it amazing that when I have been trying since seats on the date I require was first released, none have been released. Is there any way of finding out if there will be any released or if I can upgrade to business just prior to travelling on the return leg? Or am I doomed to travel the return economy.

What are my chances?

I would not be expecting any award seats to be released until close to date of departure. If the flight is not too busy , then they may then release some more, but definately not guaranteed

Given the last ASX data for May travel. QF int running at over 80% network
seatfactor, and yield -the mearsure for how much you pay to travel per KM up by 8% vs last year indicates planes are full in all cabins at the moment
If it helps I did once get a tip from a qantas staffer that the best chance days to secure upgrades were Tue-Wed and the worst days Fri & Sun.

People said that in order to get J award seats we would need to book a year in advance. We had some success with redeeming points for J seats this far out. We looked in the system and it only showed Y award seats but no J. However, hubby is a platinum, so we booked under his FF and they released the J seats for us. Not sure if they would release the J seats if he was a bronze.

Everyone, regardless of QF status, gets access to the same J award seats.

QF Platinums and QF Golds have access to additional WHY seats in the "T" bucket.

Isnt there a difference between economy on domestic for QF WP?

No difference in award seat availability in WHY; SG, WP & CL get access to the 'T' bucket on QF flights for both International and Domestic.

(Not that E/F is showing the Qantas T buckets these days)

JohnK,

Correct, though as stated by Myrna, QF will sometimes release extra 'J' seats for Platinum.
