QF have announced that they will no longer be flying to and from FRA as a consequence of the Emirates link. If you are affected be aware that QF are, apparently, trying to pull a fast, or rather, slow one. My partner and I were booked on QF6 post 15 April and so are affected. QF offered me an alternative flight - Emirates metal to DXB and the QF to SYD - only one small twist - when I checked the detail of the flights there was a 11 hour lay over in DXB making the total travel time 33 hours. Only when I rang QF did an alternative (later in the day) Emirates flight get mentioned that reduced the layover to 3 hours - same flight to Sydney. I'm a Platinum QFF and would have hoped for a little more customer care than this. Moral of the story - don't count on the first offer being the best deal.

How is this a rip off? They re-accommodated you both initially and then on a better flight connection. Good advice to always ask for a better offer.

Thanks for pointing that out - a trap for young players there!

Just out of interest - what class were you originally booked in on your QF flights? And what class are they putting you on the new flights?

Rip off is hardly a word I would be using, snag maybe, still sorting out details perhaps, your example is better than others who have new flights where a transit is occurring and the retimed flight leaves before they arrive , for some reason they are having issues pressing the accept this change button!

I just got a note about our QF6 change, we are now on QF8048 and onto QF2, we've been given 7JK on EK and 12JK on QF, all in all quite happy with the change, very happy we will get a much better hard product!

And actually you have been upgraded from 747s to 777-300s / A380s

With the 11 hour connection you would have been eligible for the free transit offer. That qantas say they are going to provide but without many details yet.

An 11 hour layover would give you enough time to go indoor skiing in Dubai!

Has the makings of a very interesting travel insurance claim!

QF pax: "Yes I would like to make a claim on travel insurance."

Ins Rep: " OK sir/madam - what happened?"

QF Pax: "I broke my leg skiing, in transit, and in Dubai."

and the trap for some players
Ins Rep : "I'm sorry sir/madam, however your travel insurance only covers you for Europe, not the Middle East"

Ah yes - the "Claytons Travel Insurance" that does not cover you for events while you are actually travelling, soon to be mandated by the ACCC to be sold as "Destination Insurance" instead.

I was originally booked in J on BA SYD-SIN rtn and then Y+ on QF5/QF6 for SIN-FRA rtn for travel in August, so called QF last night to find out was happening and learnt that I'd been rebooked on EK for SIN-FRA rtn via DXB and downgraded to Y with a wait-listed request for an upgrade to J.

Advised the telephone agent that was not my preferred option as I needed the certainty of at least having a Y+ seat.

After a few minutes the agent was able to confirm an all J itinerary with MH from SYD to LHR via KUL with a free side trip from LHR to FRA for $400 less than the original mixed J and Y+ class fare!! Thankfully QF waived all the change/cancellation fees due to the inconvenience and disruption and have also saved me having to use points to upgrade from Y+ to J - all with a $400 saving!!

Very happy indeed, as I do prefer the MH J product over that of EK. So good and bad news with the QF-EK partnership, even better news with MH now part of OW!

That is a good outcome and kudos to QF for looking after you in that situation.
