Re: a minor drama....QF codeshare with EK to AKL

You had the option of rerouting via MEL/BNE - was that not offered? (See previous Post.)

The lady did not give me the option straight away and when I prompted she did look into it. It was all going to be a tad messy (involving an overnight stay in MEL or BNE) AND it would cost me more, an extra $800 on top of what I had already paid - so I decided to just drop to Business

Re: a minor drama....QF codeshare with EK to AKL

I do understand about the overnight; but there are some viable options at MEL at least.

... an extra $800 on top of what I had already paid -
That is rubbish!
For ticketed First Class bookings, passengers may, without fee:

Reroute via BNEAKL or MELAKL (travel on QF sectors will be in Business if there
is no First Cabin offered), or
Refund if there are no suitable options <snip>
It's a shame you did not ask youy query here first. You would have been more aware of your options, rather than having to take what a CSA sais for granted.

I was not happy when I discovered that it could be down without fee....anyway. I'll be 80 SCs short of gold and had no plans to travel anywhere else this year unless it was spontaneous and last minute which sometimes occurs

The rerouting SYD to/from AKL via MEL/BNE would have resulted in two extra segments in revenue business class netting an additional 40/45 SC each way, no need to worry about ORC. (Total earn SYDx-(J)-xx_X-(F)-AKL and vv of 320-330 SC's.)

For customers on Frequent Flyer Reward Tickets

Passengers who are travelling on Qantas Points Plus Pay tickets are entitled to the same options and conditions as listed above.

Passengers who are travelling on Qantas & Partner Classic Flight Reward tickets are entitled to the same options and conditions as listed above provided any travel rebooked or rerouted is made on an eligible Qantas Frequent Flyer Partner Airline and any travel booked on a partner airline is subject to reward seat availability.

This is my issue, EK gave me 6 reward seats. Will QF do the same?

and that would've got me over the line...

How do you mean EK gave you 6? Do you mean Skywards awards on the Ek flight number? (it's no surprise they would give 6 seats in J given the empty loads!)

Would QF give 6 on QF service? on the A330 you'd be lucky. on a 737 in J? yeah, right.

Remember the J cabins on the 330 are like < half of the capacity of the EK 380 and forget the 737 for comparision... you can't equate apples with oranges IMHO.

IMHO.

Re: a minor drama....QF codeshare with EK to AKL

I'm booked on QF149 on a Thursday in October - it's still showing as a Jetconnect 737.

Does anyone know how long the site will take to update? Or am I not lucky enough to get an A330?

Re: a minor drama....QF codeshare with EK to AKL

I think only the replacement plane is going to be A300-200 QF143

Mate, I'm on the verge of some bookings in August and almost all the dates I have been looking at, the QF146 and 149s are A330s. But according to a few random searches on EF the QF149 reverts to a 737 from late-September on, while a morning flight out of Sydney (QF143) is showing as an A330.

Hopefully will change in a few days.

Re: a minor drama....QF codeshare with EK to AKL

This is a very very disappointing change.
I usually travel to AKL a couple of times a year with family and could almost always get rewards seats in business on the emirates flights. A quick check now for a planned trip in a few months shows very limited availability in business unless we want to travel at inconvenient times and/ or via Brisbane or Melbourne.
I regularly look at holiday options for the family and I'm continually frustrated at the limited availability of premium cabin seats full stop but particularly for 3 or 4 people even when booking well in advance. Until now this route was generally an exception...

With less than half the J capacity it's not surprising. Feel your pain though. Perhaps if the route isn't well serviced QF may open more up as time goes by. I have a handful of bookings for the next 6 weeks and all are currently showing plenty of J availability -- although no award seats. If there remain spare seats that surely will feedback.

What is the economy availability like?

Didn't look too closely at economy availability.
Your observation reinforces my point though, plenty of J availability but no reward seats....
Previously with emirates there was consistent and good availability even in peak times such as school holidays. As I said it was one of the only routes that I could regularly find business availability for myself and/ or family. Other routes and holiday options that I consider from time to time either don't have business availability or are serviced by Jetstar. That is no doubt a topic covered by another thread though...

Re: a minor drama....QF codeshare with EK to AKL

And would also suggest the likelihood of 4 seats being available are slim. Routing via BNE or MEL may be your only options.

Re: a minor drama....QF codeshare with EK to AKL

.... and this is why EK cuts the flight.

If they can't sell them (hence the reward availability) they're not making money on the flights, even with the apparent cargo demand, but they probably now spread it over BNE/MEL and the direct DXB anyway.

Re: a minor drama....QF codeshare with EK to AKL

Does anyone know if the EK lounge in AKL has a new (later) opening time yet? Will be in AKL a few times over the next month so would be good to know what time to plan arrivals.

Last time I flew EK it opened at 3.00pm. Sorry don't know if there has been any changes. Get there early, by 4.00pm it is a zoo. IIRC check-in/bag drop opens at 2.00pm

Define what you mean by "later"

EK Lounge with EK448/449 - should see it open as late as 8:30pm

EK418/419 - with EK419 departing at 3:15pm, should see the lounge open at noon.

It is not as much as a "Zoo" now with them spreading the 4 flights out, and sees the lounge open because of the spread between noon - 8:30pm each day.

However with EK418/419 being dropped from doing the Tasman in a few weeks time - this will also move the opening time of the lounge back to 2pm (3pm in summer) for EK435.
