Re: a minor drama....QF codeshare with EK to AKL

However with EK418/419 being dropped from doing the Tasman in a few weeks time - this will also move the opening time of the lounge back to 2pm (3pm in summer) for EK435.

They've already stopped - hence my query about opening time.

Re: a minor drama....QF codeshare with EK to AKL

Last time I flew EK it opened at 3.00pm. Sorry don't know if there has been any changes. Get there early, by 4.00pm it is a zoo. IIRC check-in/bag drop opens at 2.00pm

My last two departures out of AKL (in June) the lounge opened at 12:30 I believe. Assume it will be later as suggested above due to 419 being no more.

Re: a minor drama....QF codeshare with EK to AKL

IIRC I was told that EK lounges opened 3 hours before scheduled BOARDING time of the first flight out.

Re: a minor drama....QF codeshare with EK to AKL

Ok the simple way to sort this out I rang EK in Melbourne who have confirmed that the lounge is open now from 14.30 to 18.30.

Re: a minor drama....QF codeshare with EK to AKL

The one redeeming feature of the QF F lounge (relative quiet) will likely be no more. Oh well.

Re: Emirates Cans A380 SYD-AKL

I will be missing this access to the EK AKL J/F lounge and earn QF SC if they do stop flying AKL to Au, but go direct AKL - DXB.
The direct AKL - DXB flight time must suit a lot of people, at 20.30 for them to cancel the connection from AKL - SYD - DXB.
Between the QF AKL J and F lounge, still would say the EK AKL lounge is better.

EK have said they are not changing tags between BNE, MEL and AKL.

Re: Emirates Cans A380 SYD-AKL

I think the approval of the partnership between Emirates and QANTAS is conditional on maintaining decent levels of seat availability on Trans-Tasman routes. If EK reduced their services further QF may well have to increase their flights to avoid being compelled to terminate the partnership.

EK AKL - SYD drop

As someone that is EK Platinum and travels a lot between SYD and AKL I was most disturbed at the drop of the EK flights between these two ports.

Last night I had the unfortunate experience of doing it very tough in Y aboard a QF Jetconnect 737 SYD - AKL. Cramped, horrible, urrgh.

Does anyone know why EK dropped this route?

Nothing comapres to EK's A380, especially not a QF 737

Re: EK AKL - SYD drop

Does anyone know why EK dropped this route?

I would assume the major reasons are that it is no longer commercially viable and also that QF are able to utilise their A330's instead on Tasman turnarounds instead of being parked on the tarmac.

For Auskiwiflyer
EK also now has a non stop EK380 AKL - DXB.
Does not having a QF flight on it though.

very helpful to someone who said they fly SYD-AKL v.v. a lot. That's the long way around for sure :p

and an EK Plat is not going to "need" a QF codeshare on an EK flight anyway.

An aside I received a booking change message from QF last week for MEL-AKL later this year and feared another EK cutback, but it was just a schedule change of +10min to the arrival time, which is a bit odd but hardly a big deal. Happy to still be on the EK bird in F :) And perhaps auskiwiflyer could also route via MEL or BNE if they REALLY want the EK product, though it is out of the way for a SYD based flyer.

You can still book the EK code on the QF flights, but only limited A330 options to choose from AP.

Y in the 737 isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I guess airlines are all about the right aircraft for the right route aren't they?

Why no QF code on the AKL direct?

I would imagine this is part of the QF/EK alliance.

None of the EK flights AKL-DXB (ie the nonstop or the connections via MEL or BNE) have QF codes. However, the individual sectors that include Australia do (eg: MEL-AKL is QF8761/2, then QF8406/8407 for the DXB-MEL-DXB legs).

I would guess that the lack of ex-NZ qf codeshares on the EK metal are beause neither endpoint touches Australia or is a direct connection from an Oz flight. I would presume this is either a limit of the agreement, or for purposes of sales QF may not even have rights to sell AKL-DXB sectors as a pair, but can splt them to touch Oz.

though again, this is more assumption than actual knowledge.

I suspect a bit of confusion on these (merged?) threads regarding lounges. Anyway, I am extremely pleased to say the Auckland EK lounge continues to open at 1pm, despite the first EK departure being after 5pm. Lounge Angel (who has seen me many times and always welcomes me very warmly) didn't think this was only a temporary thing to accommodate former EK 419 pax, but permanent.

Was perfect for my QF 146 A330 flight at 15:20 (delayed until after 4pm) the other day. Lounge was not too busy at least until 15:30 when I left the lounge. They even made a call for the QF flight which is a first for me. Same lounge Angel said it was because there were 7 pax in the lounge on this flight. I was really surprised there weren't more (but better for me!) but perhaps also a pointer to how few EK pax were flying on 419 to BKK and DXB on the old 419.

Had intended to see if the QF lounges were bursting but as a result of the above I didn't need to leave the EK lounge. I am taking the same QF flight shortly so may try it then.

Two more trips on the new A330 service AKL-SYD. Arrived at lounges at 13:15 - straight to the EK lounge and first guest in both times. No other guests until 13:30 and only a handful of guests when I left around 14:40 each time. Hot food only started after I arrived (sensible policy to wait til they have guests!). Lounge opening will be delayed until 2pm when daylight saving starts - but I gather some QF flights get put back an hour anyway so no problem.

QF lounge looked pretty full from outside but if others have experience inside prior to QF146 that would be good to know.

Lots of work happening in terminal. EK lounge will get a small expansion but no change in location. Now have an annoying 100m walk left after immigration to get through beefed up security, then back in the opposite direction through duty free to get to the lounge adjunct. Used to be so convenient. Only adds 3 or 4 minutes but is irritating.
