QF/EK FF benefits revealed

While the changes won't affect me (I carry one bag internationally at max 25kg in J/F - which is about as much as I'd like to lug around an airport) I can see why some people are aggrieved, especially as AJ assured us that 'the higher benefit would apply'. Of course, experience shows us that QF have an interesting definition of 'enhancement' and this, for some, indeed fits their misinterpretation of the English language.

Lets hope this and other actual feedback is passed on by those invited to the upcoming lunch, and that it doesn't just turn into a QF love-in as I suspect it will.

As an ex-BNE dweller, I feel for you, but still think you're dreaming considering they can barely make F work ex-SYD and MEL. :(

I actually want to have my cake and eat it; I'm not looking for any F flights from BNE, I'm just looking for a better Flounge! Given that there are several 747 flights with F stopping over in BNE there is definitely a need for it.

Yes I understand re: lounge. You can always fly via Mecca to experience true Flounging ;)

What flights are they? None are sold as F, the F seating is a bonus which will be short-lived.

Coming into this discussion halfway through perhaps, but wouldn't you be able to use the EK lounge in BNE (that's where we're talking about right)? Gives QF an easy way out regarding their little box really, as they now have a partner lounge available that was very well built, so I'm told.

I don't think that there are any OW F seats ex-BNE. Not on QF or CX. MH?

I've not flown F from BNE ( or anywhere else for that matter) so I am unaware of the availability.
Although I suspect MH used to do it ex BNE to UK

I think the QF F lounge in BNE is now essentially a OWE lounge - much like Galleries First at LHR T5 given F pax go to the Concorde room.

You should be thankful you have the 'WP Mezzanine', considering many airports have no WP/F area at all. If there is no F sold, no F lounge. Just look at SIN for a case in point. Vale SIN F lounge.

MH doesn't run F to anywhere in Australia. In fact I think now the only a/c they have that has first are their 5 or so A380's. Indeed even when they were operating the 744 to Sydney, which stopped around a week ago I don't beleive they were selling any seats in the F section. So my point above remains what F services are there that requires Qantas to provide a first class lounge. Of course there are lots of Emeralds who would well appreciate it, but that wasn't the argument being put forward by the person I orginally replied to.

QF8 is only ever an ER, and none left that are not converted.
And even before they were converted, the Er's were only sold as three class (J/W/Y). In the early days, those lucky enough to get a row 1-4 seat had the First flat beds.

I was very happy saving a few thousand on my trips and getting Y+ seating for a Y fare

That will stay a dream for quite some time I fear. 2015 is my best guess at current but it might be overly optimistic

There's now some discussion of the opening being 2017 - BBC Doco.

I suppose if there was ever a glimmer of QF returning to Germany, that is now gone forever, surely EK are already pushing hard for their own rights.

Regards,

BD
