QF Double Status Credit Promos - I am not 100% sure I follow the logic anymore...

Although I have not sighted any documents, I’ve had corroborated from separate inside sources that for Oneworld it’s the carrier who pays for lounge access in all cases. In Star Alliance it is based on how you access the lounge (if status, then program pays. If class, then it’s the carrier).

In Oneworld there are also limits on how many “free” status memberships can be handed out (ie status matches). I suspect these limits exist due to how lounge access is paid, and hence why you will see more gratis status matches in star alliance. (However in oneworld, status challenges skirt the rules on this and aren’t included as a free status handout).

In another thread, a member gave a run down of how it works in Oneworld. And given trippin_the_rift's CV, I have no doubt that this description is accurate

Here is how it works for Oneworld:

- Pax travelling in F/J, the marked airline pays for lounge access (eg: regardless of which airline status you hold in the Oneworld alliance, if you travel in biz class, the carrier flight number you are booked on will pay the lounge provider for you/guests entry. So say you're in first class on BA#xx_x but on Qantas plane, BA will pay for the lounge. Similar to how your points earning into any FFP will be determined by the marked flight#/ticket you are travelling on)

- Pax travelling in any other cabin, the host airline/frequent flyer programs pay for lounge access. (eg: travelling economy class on CX, with your QFF Platinum as FQTV and entering the MH Golden lounge. QF will pay MH)

- JQ members can't access Oneworld lounges because JQ is not a Oneworld member, and therefore has no agreements with other OW carriers. Fiji Airways becoming a OW Connect member means they're hybrid (ie: contracts with only a few OW member airline programs).

As I've just started my new membership year I'm sitting back with a glass of Cabernet and drumming my fingertips a la Mr Burns. When a global or targetted DSC arrives in ye olde inbox I shall reply, "Excellent".

..About the only way status can be nothing but an expense for them is if you do all your post-status travel on another OneWorld airline and exclusively visit Qantas lounges. I suspect the incidence of that would be rather small...
This is exactly what I do

So when I originally wrote this post it seemed to cause confusion among some members.. maybe I didn't articulate myself properly....

My point is this: If QF actually used some kind of business intelligence, they would not just offer the DSC willy nilly. They would only do targeted, and only do it if said business intelligence suggested that based on your current confirmed bookings, and compared to your historical travel patterns and spend, you were at a risk of churning, and therefore a DSC might encourage you to book something last minute. When the DSC is not managed "intelligently", as is the case with me, then the reverse actually happens: I qualified to retain WP earlier than usual, therefore spend less with QF because I avoid flying them once i have qualified (fly other OW airlines, or very cheap JQ domestically).

Hold on Monty, aren't you P1?

QF have never, in my five years of experience of P1, targeted a SC promo while I have been P1..

And this is exactly what QF appears to have moved to over the past 6-12 months (in stages) - more specific targeting of promotions to specific members (how "intelligent" this is perhaps remains to be seen of course) but the trend definitely appears to have gone from the global offer to targets fwith bonuses ranging from 25-75% and with limited travel dates and even routes/regions (eg: Travel to USA, Travel to Asia etc).

It's a smarter move business wise rather than global promos for sure. IMO anyway.

I was starting to think I was the only one. Having been P1 for a similar time and I can categorically state I have never received a targeted offer of any type be it SC or points offers. :(

The day I get a targeted DSC is the day AJ hand delivers my bottle of Xmas Taittinger. That's why I'm just drinking my Cabernet and watching the QF Points Hack Facebook page essentially devour itself on this subject. Better entertainment than Netflix any day of the week IMO :p

Gents, lets just be civilised I have met both of you @RichardMEL on that debacle of a QF flight out of SIN a month or so back. @GoldCanyon340 a year back in the QF F lounge. Maybe next we will arguing in BA GGL that TH started.

That Facebook page is an absolute hoot sometimes

Well I did get a DP promo a couple of months ago which really surprised me!!

but never a SC one. And well tbh it makes perfect sense. Why target high SC earn P1's with more? It kind of doesn't make sense from QF's point of view. Either we would earn them and don't need the DSC, or use the DSC promo to requalify P1 - either way there's no real gain for QF except possibly a bit of extra revenue (if one was using DSC to potetially requalify) - but given most P1 generate a significant earn for them anyway, it is probably not seen as a worthwhile exercise - unlike trying to seduce Silvers and Golds to higher status.

IMO

I've been Platinum since 2007. The past few years I have struggled to reach 1200 SCs by 31 May each year and have managed to get there via double SC offers.

This year will be interesting. Right now is the first time in 12 years I do not have a single booking on my QFF account and can't see this changing anytime soon.

So assuming no more general double SC offers then 1200 SCs will be a struggle unless targeted with a generous bonus SC offer.

An AusBT article from a few months ago when they updated the FF program quoted Joyce saying they weren’t going to stop the DSC for all offers.

I just received a 50% more status credit offer for Cairns. I was looking at flights yesterday.

This makes absolutely NO sense. I have been planning a CNS trip for the past few weeks and constantly have been checking fares, at least twice a day. Last thurs I booked SYD - LAX - NYC Return PE. I am GOLD FF for the first time, Anniversary is 31 JUL, I will be GOLD until end of JUL 2020. Why have I not received one single BP or 50% or DSC offer?

Only QF knows how offers work. I have been with the QF program since 1992, I cannot recall ever receiving a targeted offer of any kind.

The only offers I have been able to take advantage of are the general ones.

Not sure. I thought it was weird also as it came through at the same time as a sale for fares that included to Cairns. I had looked a few time in recent weeks but not as much as that.

Yes! I have been a member since 1996 :)
