I have a booking for QF485 (MEL-PER) next Monday 22nd and returning Tuesday 23rd. I booked it on the cheaper seats and the booking cost be around $640. I now need to add Adelaide to my trip, but I still need to fly out on QF485, then PER-ADL Tuesday 23rd, home early Wednesday 24th. The issue is this. Traditionally when I have to do this, I cancel my booking, get a credit, then re-book. I get charged the ridiculous change fees, but that's life with the cheap seats. To rebook on QF485 now it will cost me $635, that's just short of my total original flight cost.
The question is, can I leave this booking stand, make another booking to fly PER-ADL, then ADL-MEL and just forget about the return leg (originally PER-MEL)? Will I still get points and SC's for the first flight (obviously not the one I don't fly). Also if my PER-ADL flight is scheduled to leave before my originally booked PER-MEL, will this cause an issue? If it's too hard, I'll cancel the flights and start again.
Thanks in advance!
