I agree JohnnoK.

Personally, I only take my laptop bag, everything else is checked in.

I do appreciate those that carry more on board and know how to store properly:)

Cheers
BF

Carry on is out of control.

I have a large(ish) laptop bag. It's not too much to expect it go in overhead bins above me in row 4. Sometimes I can put it under seat in front if there's any space.

My flight Melb to Syd tonight cancelled, other delayed, so I checked my bag to save the hassle.

Another long Friday night for Melbourne airport.

Glad you're all happy. I am responsible and fit both my large and small bag into the space that is occupied by the typical wheelie bag. Not sure about being treated like a child.

At first I thought it's a great idea but after I saw it today for the first time I must admit the way they they put the tag on and slowly explain where to place the big bag and the small bag does look like they treat pax like children/retards now.
Hope it's a temporary thing done to introduce the new tag because the whole process is annoying.

What we want boarding done to 5 minutes do we? Boarding is done quickly and smoothly on my flights plenty of which have every seat occupied.

Nice way you cut out the reasoning.

I guess being a responsible adult who stows their luggage in the most efficient way possible is too much for some to handle. Oh well defend the clowns who stow their daypack lengthways in the overhead.

Not to mention I don't have a stupid wheelie bag. So 98% of the time in under the size and 7kg limit. But that's fine have a go at me.

cam: relax. Big breath in. Breathe out. Relax.

Hey, Josh is back next week. Drinks?

This has nothing to do with your first post. You talk about my attitude. Well tell me, exactly what do you love? What is "it" that you love?

You'll probably find any attitude is about the post below.

Maybe I should express it another way. I follow the luggage rules. I get on as quickly as I can. I am considerate of others on the flight. I'm going to express my annoyance at being made to suffer because other don't.

With this type of attitude is there any wonder why there are issues fitting hand luggage into flights?

Gee, such aggro on AFF .. easy to understand there's increasing aggro on the actual flights! No need to jump down people's throats because they express their opinion :)

<dons flame proof suit & goggles> ;)

No agro, no jumping. Just calling out a selfish above the law attitude.

Take it however way you like, I actually don't know why my post was singled out.

Here's a thought. Why not use the time taken to apply all these new tags to actually enforce the carry on rules. That would be a good starting point to easing the problem. I sit there some days watching people struggle with 3 or 4 items of carry on, whacking all the aisle seat passengers as they go. Stop this nonsense and the rest might get easier.

Sure they could enforce the rules but the rules go out to 2 x 105cm bags or 1 of those and a suit pack etc.

I have to say, if I have only a small bag, or checked the bulk of my luggage, it doesn't seem fair to lose my leg space for those who have a large case. Maybe my small one can go under their seats :p

Or should I just bring my full size carry-on regardless and keep it mostly empty. It's a hard situation for QF/other airlines but I agree that the best start would be to fully police carrying limits and size restrictions first.

Yep, fair point and perhaps this is the crux of the problem. Is QFs carry on allowance too generous? Maybe this new initiative will encourage more people to check in that extra bag rather than put up with the discomfort of having no foot space. My gripe is against the people who have a back pack, a roll aboard and a large lap top bag or hand bag big enough for a weeks supplies and nothing is ever said.

Hubby & I had 2 of our 4 bags tagged on Wednesday's QF422, which was fair enough - however once we were on the plane we switched one of our tagged bags for one of the untagged (ie we still had 2 up & 2 down just not in the combination they were tagged for), and nothing was said about it - nor about the gentleman across the aisle who put all his bags in the overhead (we were in J so that could have made a difference - not sure what went on down the back). Either way it does seem pointless going to the effort of tagging bags if they aren't going to enforce the rule - sure some people will put their tagged bags under thier seat, but in the long term if they see they can get away with it, more will just ignore the tags completely.

Yes, tagging of bags for under seat putting is a new rule.
The poor guy for my QFd flight was only on one side, so wasn't successful in tagging other side.
He was standing at Premium Entry side of entry to ramp.
QF also on sone ADL flights now using stairs for rear entry onto plane ala VA 737s.
Edit: Nige might refer to extra "work" where or which could be deemed extra/unnecessary.
