I have a question regarding Qantas award availability on AA and for the life of me can't find the answer searching the forums so please forgive me if it has already been answered elsewhere :)

I am looking for a flight from LAX to SFO in F in September 2014 and when I do a search on the Qantas website, I can only see some flights available. When I do the same search on the AA website for a paid ticket, there are a lot more flights available. Upon checking the available seats on the flights Qantas doesn’t show, all the first class seats are available. I understand there is an award bucket that can sell out but is it also true that there is no award bucket at all for some flights?

Does anyone know the likelihood of these flights opening up for an award booking in the future and would this normally occur closer to the booking date?

And lastly, do services such as Expert Flyer allow you to check Qantas Award Buckets on AA and not just AA award buckets on AA? And then setup a notification?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Personally I would not waste 24K QFF points on an F award between LAX and SFO. Perhaps in economy (@8000 + USD5)

First AAwards booking into Z class, Expert Flyer, KVS or an AAdvantage membership will show availability.

Z class is not available on every flight.

Unfortunately the seats available for economy are even worse with no award flights available except for a late night flight. My flight arriving in LAX is already booked so I'm stuck on that day. I didn't realise the limited availability of award flights in economy, even a year out!

Might just have to stump up and pay the flights on AA or wait to see if any awards open up.

And what is the cost to just purchase a fare with $$$. Just as I would never use QFF points for a SYD-MEL flight due to the low cost of purchasing a fare outright, I would certainly be looking for a cheap fare as there are many "shuttle" services on that route. Its a 50 min flight so comfort and in-flight service should be low on the requirements list.
