What's the latest you can check in to QF flights departing LAX?

It is a little hit and miss on their website. I'm seeing 90 mins, and online check in closes 2hrs before.

Can anyone confirm.

The answer isn't on the website.

However when I contacted them, they told me where you see "International Qantas operated services at all Australian international airports (QF1-QF399)" - apparently this also applies to overseas airports too (LAX/HNL etc).

So yes, 90 minutes would be the cut-off for Y/Y+.

However, IMO, you'd be mad to cut it that fine at LAX. I'd be allowing 2 hours at a minimum. The security at TBIT can be like a zoo at that hour.

Thanks, the AA domestic gets in 3hrs before, but I know how reality plays out in these situations.
I was in Austin at the beginning of Feb and my domestic AA flight in to LAX came in a good few hours before the SYD departure. I followed the international terminal signs from the AA terminal and it took me all the way to an entrance by the Qantas lounge internally without going through any further security checks, so if you have already been issued a boarding card for your AU flight, you can bypass all the usual faff.

Yes, that is what I know beforehand. However, the AA ticket is paid and the QF leg is reward, if they can process me through to SYD that would be easy, but not sure with separate ticketing.

Yeah, fair point, I got checked in for the whole journey at Austin with AA.

I know someone who checked in just shy of T-60 in J last week. They forgot to do their anti gen so had to do it on arrival at LAX on the arrivals level.

They won't. They won't even check in AA-AA on separate bookings anymore.

I didn't realise you were connecting. I would be allowing more than 3 hours, just to cover your inbound flight being late. I'd be looking at around 5-6 hours; in the other direction you can afford to be more risky but you don't want to miss your reward flight. They would probably re-accommodate you but you'd be up the back in a middle seat probably.

I've done this from Vegas and I just planned to spend a few hours at Santa Monica for dinner before going back to LAX. I didn't want the stress and I also wanted to enjoy the lounge.

Currently at lax with 3-4 hours to go before check in opens with luggage. What do you do with your bag if you leave the airport?

I rented a car for about 6 hours, ticked off having somewhere to store my luggage and being able to actually go somewhere.
