Sitting in the QC at HBA today saying goodbye to relatives, I overheard 2 staff talking about the landing fee increases and JQ threatening to move capacity to LST, it came up in their conversation that whatever JQ cuts (if they do, fingers crossed), QF will pick up the flight times and operate then as QF mainline.

Is this just mindless staff rumor or something I (and many others) should be getting excited about, I'm fed up with waking up at 3 am to catch a 6:05 am flight

Opinions?

Cheers,

It'd be awfully nice if QF restored mainline services to HBA. It might give them an impetus to keep the QP open and in good/better condition.

In saying that, I wonder why the upturn? Is HBA the new "place to be"? (Or for doing business? My instincts tell me 'no'...)

In any case, I say it is a rumour until confirmed otherwise.

Try waking up at 2-2.30am to catch a 5.00am flight. Cursed DST in the Southern states!

This came up around the same time that Jetstar withdrew from Rockhampton. Given that QFLink stepped in to fill that void, it seems reasonable that people would expect QF to fill in if JQ were to redepoly its services to Launceston as they have threatened.

The interesting thing is that if JQ pull out of HBA (or even just pull back), which services from HBA will be QF-ised? e.g. HBA-BNE, HBA-SYD and/or HBA-MEL.

I guess QF isn't going to consider trying to contest DJ on HBA-CBR (IIRC HBA-ADL is gone...)

Capacity in/out of HBA at the moment currently stands at:

HBA-MEL

QF - 2 flights in, 2 flights out
JQ- 4 flights in (or more, depends on day), 4 flights out
DJ - 5 flights in, 5 flights out
TT - 2 flights in, 2 flights out

HBA-ADL

TT - 1 in, 1 out (alternate days)

HBA-BNE

DJ - 1 flight in, 1 flight out

HBA-CBR

DJ - 1 flight in, 1 flight out

HBA-SYD

QF - 1 in, 1 out
JQ - 2 in, 2 out
DJ - 2 in,2 out

There are too many QF staff in HBA for the number of current flights, they have 2 lounge staff working the whole time and post JQ i have nevers seen more than 10 people in there at one time, last time I had a lost bag 2 people came out to deliver it:rolleyes:

Best thing about the HBA QF Lounge is the "self pour" bar!!

I get sick of asking foe a "scotch & coke AND a scotch on the rocks" just so I can have a double

You're having a laugh right? I was there twice in November on a Saturday, and the QP was brimming to capacity.

Go to the QP's more often so they know you and just ask for the usual.;)

But I do agree that the free pour bar is a great thing.

Half and half, never flown out of HBA on a saturday so I will have to take your word for it, however on a tuesday morning (QF1010) its pretty bare

Not sure about replacing JQ services per se but in a related topic I can tell you QF are investigating setting up a Q400 service in HBA - I had assumed to either supplement or replace a 737 service - until i was told the QF flights are operating at pretty full loads already....

SO perhaps the QF Link Q400's will supplement a reduction in JQ instead?

Q400s make sense, they replaced the QF services at MKY & more recently the JQ at ROK.
