QF Business class to Hawaii

I have seen this argument numerous times before and personally for me it doesnt stack up. I would plan to stay in decent hotels anyway so that for me is a sunk cost. The benefit I gain from going to an even better hotel would be fairly marginal over the course of the trip. Conversely a better flight there would be substantially different and if coupled with extra FF points and SCs I would see a reasonable amount of long term benefit.

I'd have to say I agree with you Simon.

Whilst the prior argument does hold some weight for those who can't afford to do both, those with the means to do both rather than either/or are going to be just as concerned with comfort on the flight as they are an incrimental increase in hotel quality.

I would PM you if I could, but apparently I need to have posted 15 times before I can and have only posted 8 - on no! Will check in with you when I've posted a few more times.

Christina :)

Thanks for the PM travel guru, but I can't respond to your message. Apparently I need 15 posts for that too! Hopefully I can make some later on tonight when I get home and reach that magical number :p

Just for the purpose of this example & playing devil's advocate if you like, if you still stayed at the decent hotel and opted to not go to an even better hotel, you would still spend $8K to $10K more per person on a J class fare?

How many more SC would you get travelling in J vs Y SYD/HNL/SYD?

Another way you could get more SC would be to do a quick return mileage run on an AA YUP or KUP fare HNL to AUA,BGI or PAP & return which would get you heaps more SC for AUD2200.00 pp or thereabouts. So adding that to a Y SYD/HNL/SYD fare would probably be $4K roughly.

It just comes down to the individual and if a J fare on QF is worth it or not. An item's worth basically equates to what one is prepared to pay for it.

It does however make a round world fare look like a bargain when you can get 16 J class sectors for less money than a return to HNL.

To each his own.

I was more referencing the *Class fares - an extra few thousand in total. $10K per person for a 10 hour flight is unacceptable to me.

There is always the middle group who can afford to do both however choose one of the cheaper options.
