QF A380 Cabin - which section/seat is best?

Serfty, any reports on exit row seat 66C?:?:
Been there, done that (when it was 'free' for WP :p).

It's similar to a 744 C/H exit seat with attendant ballet dancers, loiterers etc during the flight; white socks being the order of the day/night.

That time I made a mental note to go for 66A/K in the future as there is plenty of room unlike the 744A/K seats (no cowling issue and there's plenty of shoulder room). It also has somewhat less traffic than the C/H seats.

Since then I have used 80A and now rank the seating as follows:
  1. 80A/K (If choice available, take the one with less direct sunlight based on flight timing and direction of travel)
  2. 71D
  3. 66A/B
  4. 66C/H
  5. 79B/J
  6. 66B/J

Here's some posts containing photos:

That one's easy -- anything in the mini cabin up front (rows 11-13).
More specifically, go for one of the six inner seats in this section. It means no-one has to climb over you to to access the aisle, nor you the same. (Of course, it's far easier with these Skybed Mk II's than climbing over with SkyBed Mk I)

And Row 12, then Row 13, then row 11; E seats over F. If you cant get one of these six then look to B, J, A and K in that order.

However, if you are not hungry and simply wish to sleep, then some reports indicate the row 24 seats can be quite private.

Of course this is often moot as Qantas really do restrict pre-allocation access to these seats.

Tips on seat selection in J?

I am due to fly in J on a QF A380 for the first time. Any tips on seat selection? I prefer an aisle. Its a relatively short SIN - SYD sector.

Many thanks.

Sure -- anything in the centre pair in rows 11-13.

Re: Tips on seat selection in J?

Given the 2-2-2 configuration, (seats AB-EF-JK), seats B,E,F,J would give direct access to the aisle but with the E,F seats, there won't be anyone who will be tripping over your toes. Also go for rows 11-13 up front in the mini cabins.

Re: Tips on seat selection in J?

I agree with Alanslegal... try and get into the 'mini cabins'. The main cabin is HUGE and you lose the feeling that you are special!

I like the website Seatguru (.com) for seat maps and some limited info on which seats are good/bad.

I have just locked in 12E for my QF31/32 flights 9though I hope to be in F for one of the trips...)

Re: Tips on seat selection in J?

Can someone advise whether rows 11-13 are (is it called) Q blocked by QF?

I can't seem to allocate any seats in 11-13 for my next flight as as SG. I'm placed against 17B for now since my other half NB is in 17A. But last time, we enjoyed 13A/B.

Re: Tips on seat selection in J?

They must be blocked as a I just reserved them on a March flight - I am WP.

I had exactly the same issue when I booked my seat in August for my (SYD-SIN) trip this Saturday. I also ended up in 17B, it is now next to one of the very few vacant seats.

The other very crowded flight I am on is the NRT-SYD on 13 Feb. Absolutely no Y left and only a couple of J seats. Glad I've chosen my J (3A) seat already.

ISTR that QF31 in March is a 744.

I had QF31 on March 14 and that was switched from a 388. Now booked on QF9.

I was able to select 12E - I am WP so that probably helped, but it is an award flight so wondered whether that might affect things. It clearly didn't.

Re: Tips on seat selection in J?

It is showing as a 388 on expertflyer and the QF website.

Murphy strikes again!

The only day QF31 is a 744 is Sunday, the day I'm travelling.

Talk about drawing the short straw

With you and simongr having able to allocate at row's 11-13, it would appear that these seats are blocked for WPs (and CLs). It is a small sample but a good enough for me.
