Northern Summer?

So no more 717s to tassie (is it going turboprop only or will the QLink A320 / mainline 737s make an appearance ex-MEL)?

I'm guessing demand is less in NS (ie. our winter) to Tassie.

Sorry, yes Northan Summer. So from about April to September.

All 717s will be going to 737s to HBA

Wow that’s quite the capacity increase (if freq unchanged).

Where are the 717s going to be redeployed (and ideas)?

That's rather interesting. Wonder if it has anything to do with the dry season in the north and wanting to restrict capacity to increase load factor and average revenue per seat.

Probably reading way too much in to it.

So there is one reduced flight to HBA per day, but an increase per flight in capacity with the 737. Basically they will still be used everywhere else in the network, just out of MEL too many issues with reliability (crewing and engineering).

Makes complete sense, thank you. Sometimes my mind runs away, should remember occam's razor more...

Slightly OT sorry, but does HBA now have aerobridges? (Been well over 10 years since I've flown in or out of there).

Back on topic, hope there are more 717s in CBR now (as opposed to the Dash 8s), though hopefully not on the longer sectors.

I wonder if QFlink are quietly closing down its (small) pilot and FA base in Hobart now that the 737 are coming back.

Why 717 issues ex-Mel and not elsewhere in the network for them?

Just experienced this little treat myself. Had a 'disrupted' flight and was re-booked on a 717 Brisbane and Mackay. The lovely staff put me in an exit row and when I checked the app the only other seat available was 1A. After a little Google-ing it lead me to this thread and realised I could snatch a J seat over an exit row.

I’d love to see B717s back on the NTL-BNE route. The dash 8 flights are almost always full - some times the tickets go for $500+ one way. Amazing what people will do to avoid flying JQ.

I look forward to the next generation of 100-120 seat airplanes, especially since the new manufacturers seem to be aggravating Boeing and Airbus.

Not really, Airbus is in a partnership with Bombardier and Boeing with Embraer. Long live the duopoly.

My flight from BNE to MEL a bit over a week ago was changed from a 737 to a 717, and I have to say I couldn't be happier. And to be frank, I feel it is favourite plane in the Qantas fleet I have flown thus far. I was positioned in row 14, which is an exit row, and it has a monumental amount of leg space, and everything was that little less tight than most other flights. I had my iPad with me which connected to the IFE wifi with no problems. so there were no issues with there being no IFE in the seatback.

I read an article in Business Insider a little while back about the 717, and reportedly the plane is in high demand even though they ceased manufacture over a decade ago. It's a shame B took over MD. Boeing's aircraft development seems very much pitched on building derivatives of an existing idea and seem too interested in killing off diversity.

You can find the article here.

When the only QF flight out of home port is a 717 you get to like it.Good for us to sit together on the 2 seat side in Y.

We pretty much get to choose between 717 and dash 8s out of Canberra - 717 wins easily.
