QF 717 experience

Yes Im hoping they honour that on international too... better half will be WP very shortly and we have a long haul international coming up at end of the year slugging it in economy, however if we can get some emergency exit seats to be able to stretch out even better!!! though i know we won't be able to get the window exit seats as we have 2 kids with us, but the middle of the aircraft with extra leg space, i am hoping we can nab those... saving $180 per person!!!

Exit rows are only free for Platinum One on international flights, as far as I'm aware

WPs don’t even get exit row on domestic 737 ...hence the additional attraction for the 717

The 717s are ok. Flew AYQ-PER many years ago and only 5-6 passengers onboard.

ADL to MEL would’ve seemed never ending on a Dash8. I got stuck on one BNE - CBR once! :(
I've done 1.5-2 hours on a Dash8 and it's not that bad. Sudoku, games on phone or fall asleep. Time passes.

What is J like on these planes - comparable to 737?
Thinking of upgrading a OOL- SYD in a few months.

No seatback IFE but otherwise very comfortable. I actually find the J seats and setup on the 717 more comfortable than the 737s, though I suspect the dimensions are pretty similar.

Agree. The 717 J seat is a slightly newer design and I find very comfortable. Sure no video ife (I am not even sure they have streaming, they may have by now) but the flights are usually shorter anyway. I could be wrong but even the pitch seems a little more generous to me.

Also the service from the QFlink crews seems to be, in general, a little more... what's the word... exubulent? they're younger generally and have a bit less service items to work with but I think in general the attiudes have been great and less jaded than some more senior crew. Not a dig on QF mainline intended, but you know sometimes you do a fliht and it's like meh all around. I find, as a generalisation, the QFLink crews in J to really have a go and be sincere about it.

I'll be doing my longest sector soon MEL-BNE and looking forward to it, but staying in row 4 for this one as I would like to try it tbh :)

Q-Streaming is available on the 2-class 717's.

A friend (currently PS) I was travelling with had the three seats on the far side in row 4 to himself recently. He was thrilled, though of course with the tray tables in the arm rests those can't be moved. Some passengers failed to board. I guess at least one of them probably was meant to be in row 4.

I was up in J. There was a tablet holder to put my tablet and there was a USB port near this and another USB port and power outlet between the seats. In my opinion this is a better fit out than the 737 (which has no USB/AC outlets and a less secure way to hold a tablet).

Q-Streaming is available on the 2-class 717's.
They supply iPad Minis for J customers (who can use their own device if they prefer). Everyone else has to use their own smartphone/tablet.

Agree the J service in the 717s is always (in my experience) enthusiastic and helpful. Crews are generally younger and sometimes clearly training which can see a bit of variability. In one week I had the same 3 crew members three times and each time it was a different person heading up the J cabin. Quite a lot of back and forth as the less experienced ones sought advice. But all fine.

Keen to see what you think of row 4 but I prefer the 737 row 4 - more legroom if I recall correctly.

Is footroom unimpeded at row 4 on the B717 like on the B737, or is there a solid bulkhead wall in the way?

Got an email today enticing me to upgrade BNE-TSV ... what a shame my red e deal (DSC voucher) fair won't do it on-line.

edit - just called the QF Plat line ... 17,500 points later I'm sitting in the J cabin

I'll post plenty of photos.

All commercial domestic fares are upgradeable.

Usually I quite enjoy the 717. I only really fly it SYD-CBR but much prefer it to the Dash 8s - I find the 717s more comfortable, quieter and they have iPads and QStreaming. But, I did fly it between Perth & Broome in 2016 and did not like being stuck in the middle seat.

Row 4 has impeded foot room...except for my favourite seat, 4D. Due to the change from 2x2 in J to 2x3 in Y, 4D sits partially in the aisle of J giving unlimited foot room for your left leg.

It's amazing, you don't fly a bird - boom .... I've ended up booking 50+ sectors
