I normally fly each month to LOTFAP on QF11/12 and previously HKG on what ever it was when it was a 380. Anyway my good planning and little bit of luck i have not had the pleasure of flying on the Queen of the skies for a while. this month New York was a required destinations so i took the opportunity to jump on the old lady. , flying Y as a WP gave me the best seat, I was happy.
Normally upper Y on 380 is the choice, so this was going to be a change

Wow what a difference
Firstly i was surprised at how much louder the old girl was, cabin noise was clearly different, even to the point i had to turn off the Bose's to see if i had them turned on correctly or battery was flat.

I have to say it was the first time I would not rush to give the onboard staff a big pat on the back. the crew were nearly all guys and clearly were more interested in chatting between them selves than look after customer. might be a little unfair but they always seemed to be in a rush to get you out of the way to get back to galley.

The CSM was clearly not focused, i received the usual WP welcome, which also seemed rushed, very little eye contact just looking at the trusty iPad.
then hilariously 5 mins later the CSM came back and repeated the whole WP welcome again. same speech everything, did not have the heart to say anything, but just in a hurry again, just made the whole thing pointless. felt like i was watching a machine.

Service was rushed, food was the same as usual,

Also a note that there is no power in Y on 747 at all. not used to that, just thought that was STD now. funnily enough the FA did not seem to know that either. even the USB in the arm rest were not working.
Certainly makes the points on the forum about the level of the hard product on Qantas seem justified. especially if we have these planes for a while longer.

Now i enjoy my flying and often look forward to the time to relax , but this is the first time i remember not looking forward to the ride home.

Not whining, Just saying, hope someone is listening, or is that crickets I hear!

I have booked on QF 15 LAX-JFK next year. The TA initially booked me on the B747 back JFK-LAX-SYD but I have chickened out and will be routing through DFW to pick up QF8 :)

Emirates was the same, I sat in 8K on the A340, and while the FAs were all attentive and did their jobs, I don't see why sometimes on flights, at certain stages, FAs go to certain spots, close the curtains and think, "oh, passengers can't see me, so they can't "hear me"" and chat on and on and on.
I have not taken the QF old bird long distance, 4.5 hrs was the most in Y red eye, PER to SYD a long time ago, and J BNE to SYD QF8 few months ago, but (while I love planes and the 747 short flights), long flights though, I see you would be disappointed.
QF have "amended my flights" by changing planes on me, and yes, I do think its crickets you hear chirping there.
Chirp, chirp, (er), chirp, then silence, then starts again.
These days though, with QF the way it is, I would not expect too much "goodness" from them, yes, they are better than VA, and I would fly QF, but would still put some of my flights VA's way.
