Hi ALL,

I'm travelling on the QF 107 (SYD-LAX-JFK) flight next Wednesday and was wondering if anyone who has been on this route before could provide some tips/ information on what to expect at LAX. e.g. Do I need to locate all my checked luggage and check-in again or do I sit around and wait for the connecting flight? (Qantas provides no guidance).

Because this is my first trip to the USA, any information will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks! :)

Is a fairly smooth process (well at least for me a few months ago):

- Hop out and clear immigration / collect bags unfortunately
- Walk around a few corridors
- Dump them in a designated area (which is well sign-posted etc) in the main terminal hall
- Go back through security and wait

What makes it relatively easy is that it is quite early in the morning and the terminal is not busy at all...in fact it is almost empty.

You will still have to fill out a green visa waiver card despite having completed online entrance formalities / visa waivers as well. Carry a pen on the flight to make this easier.

Hope this helps and have a good trip

Just to add a few notes:
...
- Hop out and clear immigration / collect bags unfortunately
...
Queue for immigration. After passing though wait for your bags (if any)
- Walk around a few corridors
Proceed with your bags past final customs, hand over customs document as you do this. The "walk" is quite short. You will see where you need to redepist your bags.
Dump them in a designated area (which is well sign-posted etc) in the main terminal hall...
Place or (have you bags placed) on the short conveyor. Continue; looking carefully for signs for transit passengers.
...
- Go back through security and wait
...
Make sure you go through transit security and do not end up landside where you would need to go though main security (which can take much longer).
