The lounge may not have been that busy at that time and she just got lucky.

It’s the earlier times that tend to be busier when there are 2-3 A380’s, 2-3 A330s, a few Jetstar flights and some early arrivers for the late evening departures. Late evening there is only the A380 to LHR and 330 to MEL, so wouldn’t expect capacity related restrictions after QF 37 arrives.

A friend of mine had a similar situation a SYD a few months back. He had issues attaching it and wasnt able to before turning up at the lounge.
The agent tried with him and also count get it unstuck. So they just let him in. He was able to later attach the pass to another booking and use it them.
So free extra entry. I would say similar has happened here.

Just flew through SIN on Saturday on way back from Bangalore, connecting with QF36 to MEL. Entered QF lounge at about 6:30pm using SG card. Lounge was not overly busy but the numbers did build over next hour or so prior to boarding QF36 at around 7:30pm at which point I would describe the lounge as busy but far from crowded. A colleague on same flight who is QC Silver was advised by email of the SATS lounge requirement, so went in there to check it out (and to collect her 5000 points). I asked at the service desk if she could join me in the QF lounge and was given the OK, so she quickly did so since the F&B in SATS was nowhere near as good as QF lounge.
So few points/questions:
QF not denying QC Silver pax entry to QF lounge - is the email just a request?
Does travelling with SG companion override the SATS invitation?
At what status level does one qualify for QF lounge access/SATS exemption?
Anyone know how long this "temporary" arrangement will last?

No, QC and complimentary pass holders only get access to SATS.

Does travelling with SG companion override the SATS invitation?

Yes. Guests are still allowed entry.

At what status level does one qualify for QF lounge access/SATS exemption?

Gold.

Probably until Qantas sort out a permanent solution (i.e. bigger lounge)

I think it is absolutely ridiculous that guests are allowed in, whilst fully paying qantas club members are denied access.

Sbor90's reply on other points is decent guidance. Note that – as remarked in some earlier posts – some QC entry is happening based on how crowded the lounge is. It's not like a total QC ban, but not safe for QF to say anything like "May or may not get in based on time or capacity." Other things clog up the works such as delays to flights. Several AusBT readers have reported QC entry into the SIN lounge when it's not operating in sardine-mode.

Anyway: how 'temporary' is temporary? QF initially told us this the QC limit was across July & August, with regular access to resume September, but there's of course no guarantee this won't be extended. If one was to take Sept as the 'back to normal date' then one would be looking for something to change by September – either extra space to open up or existing lounge access numbers to be reduced.

If QF has maxed out the current floorplan then more room would imply some sign of construction or facility-building should be happening now or very soon (or they whack a F-only TARDIS on one corner), and there appears to be no sign of the former happening right now. I can't imagine some extra space could be opened up with at least less than one week of work (eg taking over an existing SIN admin office) and more likely two, so I'd take a punt that mid-August is the latest to watch for Stuff Happening. And who knows, AJ might even announce such a lounge extension at the Aug23 FY18 presser.

The other way to restore QC access would be for existing lounge access numbers to be reduced, which might involve non-QF/JQ flyers being sent to the BA or EK lounges, but I don't know how many pax we are talking about in those buckets so this might not be a workable solution.

[Caveat: I don't know any of that for certain, expect for what QF told me regarding July/August. The rest is speculation and I could be talking utter coughe.]

When AA were revamping their G30 A/C at MIA a year or three ago they closed that anf roped off an open area on the mezzanine entry to the G15 lounge (~140M²) as an overflow space. They set up a service desk, a small buffet with a coffee/juice station and some comfortable seating.

There's much more space at the top of the escalators leading to the lounge at SIN, but I guess it may be a bit too open. Then again if there's a will there's a way

You might think it's too open, but a PR person would describe it as an 'al fresco' lounge experience :p

Could probably get a few extra seats inside the lounge if the reception and service desks moved out to the corridor .... the QF club is the only passenger accessible area past the SATS lounge.

Flying F on QF36 tonight Mrs BD and myself were quietly advised that the lounge was very full and we'd probably enjoy the BA Lounge better.

Sad to see things have deteriorated so far at SIN that QF's premium passengers are being directed to the arms of an alliance rival ...

BD

You're flying first class yet being redirected to what's generally regarded as an inferior lounge (albeit a less crowded one)? That's just crazy.

Not sure about "generally regarded" but I find the BA lounge far better than the QF offering.

I suspect it is still there until there are too many guests and/or not enough staff to police.

The are two uses for me of the Qantas International Lounge:

1. Shower
2. Service desk

For me in relation to most other lounge based needs, the options are better at BA and EK.

I'd add in a quick feed from the plate of the day. My usual is arrive, shower, plate of the day, next lounge.

Just managing expectations when I transit through Sin twice next month on Qf 1 and 2...Geez I already miss the EK F lounge in Dxb. Fortunately, I transit through Dxb twice in March next year ! :)

QF1 should be fine. It’s late enough to avoid the peak. The EK lounge would be good for the QF2 transit ...

I'm transiting through SIN tonight on QF2, and I was thinking of heading to the BA Lounge as a WP, maybe I should stick my nose into the EK Lounge to see what it's like. I'll report back

I was in the SIN lounge earlier tonight (last night now) was a zoo.

Very very packed from about 5pm onwards

Should oneworld F pax be granted access to the BA Concorde Room or is that restricted to BA F?

Regards,

BD
