Andrew Bolt isn't too happy with Qatar. The customer relations he describes as occurred to his travelling daughter, seems unbelievable.

Maybe the staff are too busy celebrating Christmas?

As someone who flies QR fairly often (but only in J), I'd say that this is fairly standard practice.

QR is fine when everything goes to plan, but when there are IRROPS they can be completely hopeless (like all of the ME carriers).

Qatar have made a powerful (noisy) enemy. Interesting that one of the pax was meant to be married on the Saturday (which I'm assuming is today?) Not leaving much margin for error!

Mr. Bolt should probably be having a go at the airline responsible for his daughters missed connection (or connexion as he called it ) at LHR as CX don't fly EDI-LHR. But it's probably too much to ask a "journalist" to do their research these days.

It seems to me that the 'article' was more of a rant than anything else. Journalism is in a sad state.

But they do sell tickets from EDI to HKG-
Book flights with confidence | Google Flights
And using the CX website-it took an age to load.

It's an opinion piece Blog, not a journalistic article.

As for the "rant" - he cites dates and times and what was said - albeit not from first hand perspective.
From these he draws not-so-good conclusions about the carriers.

IMHO this says as much about airlines good work as their bad. People now expect to be able to fly around the globe to a perfect schedule. Someone will miss their wedding because of a flight cancellation/delay when they assumed perfect trans-global flight????? Hello!!!

Really, who cares.

Bolt is on air because he causes controversy and if your going listen to him about what airline to fly, hopes already lost for you.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

AFF Supporters can remove this and all advertisements

“But a small plea to airlines: for goodness sake, just tell passengers what's happening where there's a delay.”

That’s really the crux for me. When something goes wrong, it all comes down to the communication. Too often these days, big corporations are unable to fulfill basic service standards when it comes to communicating with their customers. It only compounds frustration and creates more disharmony.

I must send him a note and ask him which airline he recommends to fly, as he certainly hasn't done so in this Blog article.
You just made it up.

Thanks. It will be interesting after reading Bolt's article, as I was planning to fly with Qatar next August or September to Venice or Stockholm, after cancelling our trip with them this year due to medical issues.

I guess that I had better check that there isn't any major international event in the area to stress their flight capabilities.

Renato

But the airline operating the sector is responsible
The first leg is on Flybe but sold as a codeshare on CX.As you well know most people flying would regard that as being a CX problem. Not everyone is an AFFer.
I don't find it unusual if someone has bought a ticket from CX and their flight has a CX flight number they regard it as the airline to contact if problems

Ignorance is not an excuse

In any case, they be elible for EUR600 per PAX on top if duty if care/refunds, although by all accounts getting such out of ME airlines can be like pulling teeth.

Sorry Tom, if I paid CX they are my supplier and it is their responsibility to sort it out, especially from the POV of a less informed customer. Cheers

Assuming that everything he's written is 100% correct, CX didn't handle the misconnect well. Not arguing that at all. I'd just like to see some journalism instead of loud shouty opinion man. But I know that's not going to happen as he is just an opinion writer (with a large following).

But in his article he did say CX apologised when contacted. It just went downhill after that.
And also if you read his article it does say his daughter arranged alternative flights after the QR problems which I take it as she bought a CX ticket. So no need being a shouty man just because you don't agree with his politics.

I don't give a rats about his politics. Sometimes I agree with him, other times he's completely wrong IMO but I do usually ignore him. But you're going to sit here taking pot shots at me since he's probably your favorite "journalist" (again, loosely used). His daughter got screwed by QR then BE and CX. It's certainly not CX's fault the BE were 90 minutes late and she missed her connection. It definitely is that they didn't rebook her properly to MEL. So a [multitude] of errors at a busy time of year.

No Tom but first you said CX didn't fly from EDI.But they do sell tickets and have CX codeshares. They obviously took responsibility by first apologising and then stuffed up the rebooking. You critised his journalism and called him shouty man.I was just pointing out the airline side of the story and pointing out where you were mistaken. That is not taking pot shots.
