Avoid the lobster thermador. It was inedible. Such a waste of lobster.

SQ gets rave reviews but the last time I had one in J it was pretty ordinary.

I probably said at the time that lobster that’s been frozen, thawed, cooked, frozen and then defrosted/reheated is never going to be the best…. Fish is actually a bit more forgiving but QR can stuff that up also….

Oh what a shame. I actually ordered it but now have changed to Chicken Kabsa instead.

I've booked Machboos for the BCN leg. Not sure if they are too similar or not. But I have never tried them before so may as well try it

I agree with all that. Had a ?lobster entrée on QR and it was a small one (like a marron) and it came out whole, and dry with little flavour. Also only ever ordered SQ's Business lobster thermidor once.

Look like some champagne changes have taken places. Menu for next weeks flight is showing Bollinger and Tattinger Rose.

Finally flew QR for the first time: In Business.

31 December 2025: QR817 HKG-DOH

The plane is Qatar Pacific (ex-CX) 77A with old CX seating. The entertainment system was slow and jittery. The food onboard more than made up for it though.

Qatari Mezze:


Chicken Kabsa with Cucumber Raita: Quite tasty. Not sure if it is westernised? I did pick this over the Lobster Thermidor so I hope I made the right choice!



Cherry Tiramisu:


Snacks provided throughout the flight. I did not have light meal at the end, and preferred the snacks instead.


I was very impressed with the food onboard. I would say that their food is slightly better than SQ J?

1 January 2026: QR141 J DOH-BCN

This is probably the best flight of my 4 QR flights, as I departed from DOH with full access of Al Mourjan lounge earlier, the seating is the new Business Class Suite (not Q-Suite). The food is excellent, even though the Hamour Machboo tastes similar to Chicken Kabsa earlier.

The food is excellent, even though the Hamour Machboo tastes similar to Chicken Kabsa earlier.

Our Qatari friends told us that they are the same dish pretty much.
When we have a couple of flights on QR we will often choose one of the other dishes because of this. I really enjoy them though

8 January 2026: QR46 J DUB-DOH

This is 6.5 hour overnight flight so I only had 1 meal, and just focus on sleeping instead. The Business seat is the older Super Diamond seating (787-8) but I still find it quite good.

Main Course: Pan Seared Cod Filler with Lemon Cream Sauce

9th January 2026: QR816 J DOH-HKG

This is on Qatar Pacific (ie ex-CX) 77A plane. Looks like it is exclusively used for DOH-HKG route. The seating is old and not real QR seating. The entertainment system is slightly better than my earlier HKG-DOH flight.

If you want full QR experience I would suggest to avoid HKG-DOH route until the QR change this to their new plane (most likely need to wait until 777X are available?)

I only spent 10 minutes at Al Mourjan Garden lounge as the transit time at DOH was short. Also, it was also standard breakfast offering at that time.

The good news is that there was Cavier available, and I ended up having both the Lobster Sandwich (provided as part of breakfast), and later Chicken Machboos as main later. The soya noodles with seafood wonton was not good though, probably because I am Chinese, so I have higher expectation on Chinese food lol. Maybe I should have lower expectations given this is a non-Chinese airline.
