I've had two U class redemption on QantasLink B717 aircraft. BNE - CNS & BNE-CBR.

Both times, I can use Manage My Booking to view the seat map for the outbound leg. When I go to the return leg I can only choose Window/Aisle.

At the time of doing the booking I did allocate seats for the return and on some views on the website I can see 3C displayed for the return.

Anyone else come across this little glitch?

You're not on the dreaded Dash 8 from BNE to CBR by any chance - I booked on it once by mistake. :(

Edit - I now see you have been able to select 3C when you did the booking so obviously you are not on the Dash. Sorry.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

It is entirely possible that even on a 717 in J that, for example, row 3 is already allocated and row 1 and 2 are blocked to allocation for status nder Platinum or above. If the OP is say Silver or Bronze then the system can't "see" any available seat to select - even if the 8 seats in rows 1 and 2 are empty, they are "occupied" to allocation for lower status folks, so therefore if you're in 3C and 3A/DF are taken, there's nothing the system can move to, thus no seat allocation available.

At least this is the theory I am going with. If it is this it's not a glitch per se.

Or it may be something else totally, but I have definitely seen situations where non status flyers have hit similar issues in J cabins on 737 and 717 like this.

This theory, along with the possibility that the seat map has been pulled or flight is under airport control, can be checked with EF.

There's also at least one 717 floating around in the system that doesn't have Bus Class seats. I wonder if that has been pencilled in for the return flight?

Absolutely given the date/flight details to look at. :)

Thanks for the feedback. That it has happened twice on 717 return legs makes me intrigued. I am currently Gold, so I can at least get to choose seats in Row 3 on the outbound (9 of 12 seats available).

Checking commercial bookings for the return leg, shows 3 or 4 seats available in row 3, rows 1 & 2 blocked.

I'm not too concerned, looking forward to more adventure.

I'm happy to fly in anything. it certainly beats walking or driving.
A Dash-8 in a window seat, with the "legroom" only suitable for the most petite among us, does not really suit for a 2-hour flight.

It's not terrible if you have an aisle seat with the window seat empty however, and are in the front of the plane where the engine noise is more bearable. (How they don't get in trouble with the ACCC for calling these planes "Quiet" I don't know...)

I admit this included random pic is not of me, but it does give you an idea of how skydivers fit into planes. I enjoy that I'm in a turboprop with doors and seats. :)

As of today the 717 return leg has a normal seat map.skydiving011.jpg
