QantasLink Airbus A220 Discussion

I'd rather have a higher quality product on a lower frequency. The higher frequency mainly becomes important when the carrier is unreliable and recovery becomes more if an issue.

MEL-BNE is a business heavy route so frequency is vital.

.... is there something I'm missing?
Wifi?
So had my first Qantas A220 flight yesterday from Canberra to Melbourne. Here are a couple of observations:
...
Negative:
*Economy seat fabric like steel wool soap pads
*Poor fit and finish on seats
*No IFE, big miss for a plane that will be with us for the next 15+ years
*Increased interior noise than 717

The interior fit and finish is a definite down-grade from the 717, particularly the economy cabin, which was obviously done on a budget and is awful. You would loose a layer of skin if you were wearing shorts on those seats.

That said the crew, bar service and catering lifted the experience up.

6/10

Pluses:
*Great crew
*Bar service (early afternoon flight)
*Catering (biscuits and dip)
*Personal space (in extra space seating)

So really it's Qantas not Qantaslink. Just so they can pay less to the staff?

There’s no requirement to paint QantasLink on the side of the aircraft. QF can (and possibly should) migrate the jets to the mainline brand where rhe service is almost identical to a 737 vs a Q400.

They can still be operated by a subsidiary.

From 26th October (IATA schedule change date), the 3 x Daily HBA-SYD-HBA (2x on Sundays) that are currently on A220s are all going to 737s.

HBA-MEL-HBA staying on A220

Looks like QF are replacing 737s with A220s completely on the MEL - BNE route from Dec. Amazing that all flights between our 2nd and 3rd largest cities will become QFLink - makes sense for a small regional route.
Yes they appear intermittently before then - am booked on one in September.

Allows QF to maintain frequency onn MEL-BNE but presumably improve yield / better match seat demand and overall capacity.

To be expected, cheaper everything for QF as a premium airline....

The 220 returns to LST over Dec/Jan peak
Some LST-MEL services & an additional daily LST-SYD service on top of the existing E190 service
LST-SYD has its plane originating from SYD, whereas the LST-MEL flights don't match up to anything at all

A220s , lots.
BNE-MEL has been an A220 route since day 1, I flew on an A220 on the first day of passenger flights from BNE-MEL. Nothing special really other than QF using more A220s on the BNE-MEL route and then stretching the 737s to new places like DRW-SIN, BNE-ROR etc

Another new A220 route.

Sydney to Coffs Harbour starts October 26.

Operates 1 service per day. Timings vary.
I much prefer the Dash-8 in economy. I think the 220 sucks. Cram as many pax as is (almost) humanely possible. No thanks.

I flew on the A220 today in J (first time) and had a nice flight, I think the seat was better than the 737 (noting the A321 and refit 737 will have the newer seat) but the stand out thing was the front toilet... so much space compared to 737 front lav or those tiny things down the back.

Well, that's fine, but I flew a 220 in J from MEL to CBR in seat 2A (couldn't get row 1), and the person in front of me fully reclined his seat (for a 1 hour flight!).

The space remaining in front of me was non existent. So, never again on a 220, thank you.

I'd rather fly CBR-MEL on a Dash-8, and have booked the same. Also the hosties are much nicer.
