Qantas wins major corporate accounts from Virgin

I know of one top 100 ASX with 100 000s employees where everything was booked DJ except Perth where the staff were allowed to fly QF. I daresay this might have changed with the "Full catering" changes that have happened on PERTH flights

QF also won Telstra back earlier in the year. Few more staff than NBN ;)

Policy had been 'cheapest available' but is now Qantas only.

Thats good news for QF! Still a bit puzzled by the NBN win, I have a few Collegues in senior positions there who have yet to step foot in a DJ plane (including a Ranga who was my boss at a multinational many years ago), as for contractors following, one of the main ones is very much a DJ house - Alcatel. Once the status match golds start to drop off getting DJ lounge access over the next 8 weeks, it will be interesting to see how busy the lounges are in both camps, which is normally an anecdotal way of identifying RPKs and yield mix.

I was told by a Fortescue Metals employee that "Andrew Forrest has had a gutful of Virgin" - not sure specifically why.

He now flies to Solomon (SLJ) via PER on QF.

a mate of mine qualified Plats with VA and his lot are one of the coy just snatched up by red roo.

Do you think they will status match VA Plats, was the question?

i would have expected Mr Forrest to have private transport now he is the third force in Iron Ore!!!

I don't know whether he flies commercial or not but maybe his staff are over it so he's had to have a rethink about his company policy.

FMG staff are split across both airlines. Both QF & DJ have contracts. I am not sure of the breakup but I guess it will come down to routes, schedules & price.

Disclaimer: I work for one of the organisations that has just switched to QF. We have been offered status matches by Qantas for Gold & Platinum. Not much use to me as I've still managed to retain WP with QF anyway the last 2 years, although it was looking like I might have been a little short for the next year. Now though it has all changed and looks like I may have a soft landing back to gold on DJ instead, unless there is another double SC offer in the next month before the switch to QF!

When the J/WP lounge opens it will be interesting to see how many WPs are left as well.

It will, because from all anecdotal evidence we are hearing, most people are losing their matched status.

However, the cousin that I referenced before who said Accenture staff are very happy to be on QF, got a call from DJ offering to comp her VA Plat status (she had earned 180 SC)...... No mention was made of Accenture so I can't be sure if it was knee jerk or she had just been picked. But at 180 SC..... really??!

As an earned bum in seat Gold, I'm so annoyed at DJ right now, they have completely lost sight of their 'real' customers.

LOL, major account, NBN has 906 staff as at June 30.

There is actually more than 1600 as at 30 June this year, 906 is 2011 figure I think.
See Page 27: www.nbnco.com.au/assets/.../nbn-co-corporate-plan-6-aug-2012.pdf

NBN had 1,620 employees as at 30 June 2012 and has developed a suite of integrated policies, processes and systems to support its staff. NBN employs people in all states and has permanent offices in Sydney, Melbourne, Hobart, Canberra, Brisbane, Townsville, Adelaide and Perth.

Thanks, I'll pass it on.

Yep my friend in Marketing told me they were very happy to be back on QF, the deal came about not in a small part because of their ESS (employee satisfaction survey) that highlighted travel and Virgin as a point of annoyance for staff. So it was taken into account for the contract.... She said they were a little annoyed when they walk into the lounges and terminals it is all Optus WIFI hahah.

I told her tough luck if you guys had provided a good service in the first place there would have been a bit less pressure to change. She admitted the Optus powered lounges are far better hahah.

One of the global car manufacturers based in Sydney changed from QF to DJ about 2 years ago. There was uproar in the dealer network and within 12 months almost every Dealer Principal and Sales Manager in the country stopped attending launches, training & meetings.

It was not long before the manufacturer gave in and started putting people back onto Qantas!

That's a pretty dramatic reaction! I guess 2 years ago DJ was still a well entrenched LCC - something they are trying to leave behind now, maybe the reaction today would be less perhaps?

Interestingly my headhunters that forward place me for work if I need a contract or two say that jobs that require travel are now getting a lot more questions about travel policy and carrier choice than they used too.

Some high level candidates are now able to negotiate exceptions to company travel policy - especially if they are contractors. Got to love a tight labour market.

I guess there are some challenges for Virgin then, kn undertsanding what those points of annoyance are. One would assume that Virgin will have a debrief with the company to understand just what the issues were.

The bigger problem may be that some people have tried it, and didn't like it. It will be hard to get those people to try again!
