Qantas Wine latest offering

Just received some bad new:

The Abercrombie listed on epiQure at $125/bott - $95 on Dans - just sent them a message saying they need to order in some more Wolf Blass and deliver what they contracted to supply.

at $59/bt it's either Wolf Blass or unfortunately a refund - unless they can give you the Abercrombie for $25/bt à la 2010 :)

97pts from CM. One of the top tier Margaret River Cabernets with a great history. Cheapest I've ever seen it is $72 if that helps?

actually still $70.91 :)

I'm not a big alco, but my better half is recommencing her interest in wine. How compelling is the QF epicure offering

depends what she wants - check out my picks [post=1645885]here[/post] :)

Woah, a slew of wines (and 1 Champagne) with 15K bonus points on offer

Yeah, I just bought 48,285 QFF points + 2,190 MR points (and the odd bottle of wine) for $1,095. Going the "top up points" route would cost $1,175.00 for 48,000 points.

Similar here :D bought 48,240 QFF points + 360 points from Visa (direct sweep to QFF account) for $1,080; with $720 towards my $40K cap for my Macquarie Visa that will continue my Diamond status for another 12 months. Got 12 packs of the Heirloom Velvet Fog Pinot Noir 15 (a present for our builder) as well as SC Pannell Tempranillo Touriga 2015 and Ironcloud Rock of Solitude Chardonnay 2016 thrown in for clients, all delivered.

Krug, at $395/bottle would seem to imply buying the points at ~2.4c each which is probably not too bad (plus free bottle of vintage Krug)

Now if only it was the 2002. Fingers crossed such an offer comes for the 2008, but realistically it never will. They're just trying to shift poorer vintages.

How poor is it? Halliday scored this vintage 99 points.

Happy to take it off their hands. Got on this and the d'Arenberg mixed pack for ~31,000 points. Average price of about 2.5c plus free wine is fine with me.

What I laughed about was the paltry discount they gave the 2000 Krug - $399.99 down to $395, really....(they do give 15K per case, but then again, I presume a case is a single bottle - because at those prices, 12 x Krug with only 15K bonus points surely isn't worth it).

First my Halliday rant. I ignore his ratings. He dishes points out like they're going out of fashion.

I doubt its a poor wine. I couldn't say as I've not had the pleasure of trying the 2006 Krug. In fact, it wasn't a bad vintage (unlike 2007) and better than 2005 too. However, with limited funds, I'll stick to great vintages when it comes to spending that sort of money on wine, especially champagne. So for the naughties 2002 and 2008 are the ones to look for.

Notice how you haven't seen the 2002 Krug on special or being flogged by the likes of Vinomofo? Good reason for that.

Having said that, everything I know about the 2006 Krug would suggest it is an excellent wine and I doubt anyone would be disappointed.

Another reason for my comment is I do like aged champagne. So if you're going to cellar for longer term, you really need a well balanced wine.

I would highly recommend Tyson Stelzer's champagne guide. Its an interesting read from a man who certainly knows his stuff and calls it like it is. I've met Tyson on a couple of occasions and is a really great, down to earth, approachable guy.

Hi folks, any advice? I can't find any info on the epiqure site - Trying to check out with delivery to metropolitan Melbourne and and keep getting "Unfortunately your postcode falls outside our delivery zone for Shipping package 2. Please remove the package from this order to continue checking out. We apologise for the inconvenience."

Phone call is all I can suggest.

Thanks kermatu - took half an hour, they had no idea why it was doing that either, but ordered the wine for me. Small order, just picked up an Innocent Bystander Syrah, and a Fowles The Exception Cab Sauv. No space, but personal faves - couldn't resist.
