Qantas vs Emirates status and f/f points?

Hello All,
I can pay approx $12,000 to Qantas for a First Class fare SYD/DXB and get status points and F/F points but if I book thru Emirates web site I can travel First Class all the way from SYD to St Petersburg for approx $2000 less with no QF status points just F/F points. Do you expert people think it is worth approx $2000 to get status points or should I book direct with Emirates and forgo them?

really depends what you might need the status for? If it gets you to gold you'll have domestic and international lounge access if flying economy. But you could also pocket the $2000 and spend $600 on Qantas club membership which will give you the same thing domestic, and limited lounge access internationally.

Out of SYD it looks like BA has first class to St Pete for around $10500 (I picked a random date in March). That would give you points and SCs. If you can forego the FF points as well Swiss and Lufthansa have First for $11000. Arguably a better ride on the latter.

Thank you for helping. No, they wouldn't but obviously they would help. Guess hardly anyone knows what flights they will be taking when travel is not for business. I could make gold during 2018, just depends what holidays we take later in the year - nothing planned yet.

So providing this flight is still within your "flying year" this will only pump you up to gold. I find gold the sweet spot for a self funded traveller but at what cost? I reckon you would be paying overs for it on this trip. I guess it comes down to where you wish to be status wise and the availability of disposable cash. Also where is your final destination? There might be better routes/fares to achieve same result.

QF codeshare on EK to LED, so you could book a QF code all the way through. It would be 420 SC each way.
