Qantas Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results)

They block seats but they are usually still sold nd will be allocated to someone with no status at check in. They don't not sell seats especially during the holidays.
In my experience, they do tend to keep one up their sleeve, which I presume is if they need a deadhead.

I’m currently sweating a Y+ to J upgrade on QF 11 SYD-LAX tomorrow. Normally as a WP1 with 9+ J seats available I would get notified at T-7 days or T-60 worst case.

Suspect things have changed with the Middle East rerouting or perhaps due to Easter.

Hopefully T-20 does the trick. Now only showing 4 J and 2 F seats for sale

Phew, success at T-26. Only two J seats to choose between

I've never tried to bid for an upgrade before. I'm flying MEL-PER in June and would like to try but when I click on the upgrade link it takes me to a blank page. Instant upgrade is same points a J flight would cost outright (with CR). Does that mean the bid option is likely to be very high if/when the page does eventually show for me?

Bidding tends to only be made available close to the departure date say if there are anticipating there may be bid upgrades available.

Upgrades with points are processed first then if there’s any upgrades left bid upgrades.

“Instant” upgrades are available only for domestic and only if your flight has ticketed before your upgrade request is made and there are sufficient Classic Reward J seats available.
