Success with my Y to J upgrade request on QF128 from HKG-SYD tomorrow (2 Jan). Just saw the upgrade status in the qantas app showing 'Successful' at around T-27.

Was able to check in online but I need to check in at the airport to collect my boarding pass for some reason.

Had a look on EF and can see all seats except for those in row 1 have all been taken. Not sure this is why I need to collect my boarding pass at the airport.

Just to close out my post above, my boarding pass appeared in the app at around the T-24 mark.

Was allocated 1F so I am quite happy.

QF WP 03JAN26 QF36 SIN-MEL Saver Y to J - unsuccessful. Got the text message on the day of travel. Registered for upgrade at airport, which did not happen either. so Y it was (and shadow did not hold either)

T-15 and no confirmation for QF79 tomorrow am from Y (saver) to J for 4. I’m WP and put request in September. I thought I was in with a chance as was 10 J seats last night but gone this am which must mean they have done their upgrades and I’ll be in Y.

Confirmed negative at T-9. But lovely stint at the first lounge for me and the fam so can’t complain.

The lady on the desk mentioned that upgrades are usually confirmed 24 hours before but they do another sweep which must be why it was so late in the piece to hear back.

I would have preferred a Thursday return to MEL, however no BLR-SYD flight that day and domestic India travel unreliable at the moment due to strikes and pollution so avoiding BLR-DEL domestic travel.

No go on a Syd sin soon after new year (but that worked well as got great service in Y in a front row seat) but upgrade cleared on a sin Syd 24hrs out as a P1 requesting 5 days in advance.

Interestingly two seats opened up for sale today for the Jan 21 QF68 so there is still hope

Off to a good start with a free upgrade to J on the MEL-SYD leg. Love that red beep at the gate.

After monitoring the one remaining J seat for a week, no dice on the BLR-SYD QF68 return flight

My success rate is 50% (4/8) for this route and only 25% (1/4) for the more important overnight return.

Back to the much more reliable US upgrades post Trump as a WP1

QF21 MEL-DFW Y+ to J upgrade cleared at T-7 days while I was still in India
QF94 LAX-MEL Y+ to J upgrade cleared at T-7 days before I even depart on QF21

Now just need to try and not get caught up in the predicted snow storms and brace myself for a +37 C to -16 C temperature change.
