Yes it is pretty appalling across all airlines that offer duty staff are always treated better than revenue passengers.CGK-MEL 13 August there were two J revenuie seats left, Plat but no upgrade, so went down back in Y almost last row, two off duty hosties though they had the 3 seats in the middle but I destroyed that by having an aisle. However, I got so sick of the cabin crew giving the off duty staff the royal treatment - J Pyjamas, J chocolates and J champagne, I asked if I could move to the forward bulkhead so the ladies could get some sleep and havr the three middle seats, also I could try and sleep too, after listening to their travel stories and forward travel . Very unprofessional.
I suspect that the J was full of hosties as well, probably lots fly to Bali and as not many people fly to/from Jakarta they pax up on Garuda at 10% and board in JakartaYes it is pretty appalling across all airlines that offer duty staff are always treated better than revenue passengers.
Qantas seem to be getting worse and worse though. I work with some people that have access to staff travel and I know that ground staff at Narita were willing to separate paid passengers from their families to ensure the staff could travel together. This was on QF80 that left 100% full with 70 passenger flying on staff travel.

Unlikely, as there were at least 2 revenue seats on the day of the flight, i did a dummy booking and also checked on expert flyer, however, I believe that they sometimes have a crew rest seat in J class usually the last aisle seat, at least thats what they did on a previous flight.Only if they paid full fare.
Staff not travelling on duty don’t get upgrades before revenue passengers. And even when staff are on duty, they have to be senior, like pilots.
If your upgrade didn’t come through it’s possible there were others on the list ahead of you.
Qantas usually keeps one or two seats open for last minute sales. Upgrades can occur at check-in or at the gate. If there were two seats, one may have been for crew rest, and the other gone to someone on the list. It would be unlikely to go to a member of staff not on duty unless the seat was broken and not for revenue sale.Unlikely, as there were at least 2 revenue seats on the day of the flight, i did a dummy booking and also checked on expert flyer, however, I believe that they sometimes have a crew rest seat in J class usually the last aisle seat, at least thats what they did on a previous flight.
I was on H class fullly flexible ticket heading to sydney via melbourne. If I had checked in at the J class counter (I went to the Y class0 as J was busy, they may have sent me on the direct Sydney Flight? I also also annoyed at the y class counter because the agent kep asking me about my Indonesia visa and he kept scrolling through my Australian Passport, muttering someone about electronic visas and no stamp. Perhaps he thought I had overstayed my visa like some bogan and the airline would get fined it it was discovered at Immigration and Qantas had given me a BP?Qantas usually keeps one or two seats open for last minute sales. And now the successful QF22 DFW-MEL Y+ > J return at T-7dQF21 MEL-DFW Y+ > J upgrade success at T-71 as a P1
Normal upgrade times are usually T-7d or T-60, however I only booked this one 6 days out.. I assumed I’d have to wait till T-60
Looks quite empty with 15 available seats.
