Qantas unveils the biggest changes to status in program history

Have Qantas said somewhere it will be 1000 per category or is that just the assumption because that is what they used before?

Whilst I was assuming it would likely be 1000 for most categories I was assuming the carbon offset is likely to basically match what was in green tier, i.e. offset one flight
Nothing official. AFF and other websites are using 1000. I imagine they will add partners to the sustainable category, rather than just stick to flight carbon offset.
Really 1000 points only?
Ah I somehow though it was 1 points per $offset. Still, 100AUD is not ideal for 10SC. Maybe okayish for 20SC.

Maybe if it is going to be 1000 points, then as @ChrisMars suggested, they might add additional options other than the carbon offset.

British Airways offer the opportunity to contribute to the purchase of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) which earns tier points (the BA equivalent of status credits) . This contribution towards SAF is not directly linked to a flight purchase.

Perhaps Qantas might add a similar option to the category. That would make 1000 points more within reach even to those only flying QF domestic flights.

Far out that would be the day, when an airline can convince people to contribute to their fuel costs, without even flying.

But then with points, qf have been doing this for years...

Reading this thread is very interesting and now I’m thoroughly confused, but then I am a senior citizen….
Don’t know if this ties into upcoming changes, probably not , I’m lifetime gold, currently platinum with year ending 30 sept. And have scraped over the 1200 mark to retain to sept. ‘27. Yet absolutely no mention of retention anywhere in my activity, profile etc. I seem to remember if and when it happened in previous years there was an acknowledgment of some sort. It’s a bit like my last 2 international business flights no acknowledgment or greeting from cabin crew. Not sure what I’ve done to offend them lol.

Platinum is a bit tricky because retaining it immediately brings up the “attain platinum 1” flow
Interestingly when I went into my app I had the same as you- no overt sign of retaining platinum. Then when I clicked on “view progress” this came up (previously there was only the P1 wheel)

It’s still early in the month, but you’ll get something soon.

Hopefully, you’ll still get the lower 1200 SCs to retain WP come 01 Oct.

Ah so I just clicked on the digital card and it’s now updated, shows both platinum and points club as Sept 27.

From my current position, I'd need 3,084 SC each year over the next 20 years to get LTP.

The most SCs I've ever earned over a single 12 month period was 2,100, most years I hit the 1200-1400 range. LTP is not a remotely realistic goal for 99.9% of FF.

I feel like the banked platinum perk is also excessively hard to achieve. It's taken me since 2009 to be on the verge of LTG, I almost need to earn LTG again (11,664 SCs from where I am now) just to get one year of platinum banked.

🤣 you just need to break it down into bite sized pieces. 10,000 a year gets you there in just 6 years
The problem is, do I really want 10000 SC per year?
For an average of $10/SC, I need to spend $100,000 of airfare per year on Qantas or OneWorld to get that.
Is it better for me to diversify these $100,000 in order to get Star Alliance Gold, SkyTeam Elite Plus and OneWorld Emerald? Absolutely. Then I don't even need to spend a single cent to fly those garbage airlines which slug me for extra baggage, seat selection and meals, and get respected every flight.
