Qantas unveils the biggest changes to status in program history

So the trick last year of just converting a wad of hotels points to QFF won't work... nor will all the QFF points Accor has given me this membership year count.

I just spent $900 on AirBNB which would have been a great kick-start for this, but I use them so seldomly I forgot to get the points

All in all it seems quite neutral, no? The big outstanding point is obviously the CR credit card partner, and clearing up the phase out timings is helpful. Otherwise, I’m still pretty comfortable with where things are and the changes all seem to be fairly reasonable.

I just got this email. My FF year ends 31 March 2027 as does my PC membership.




So for me this looks like:

1. I will need to reach the new Platinum retain target of 1400 SC this membership year and will not requal as WP on 1 April 2027 if I only reach 1200.
2. I will be able to rollover 50% of any SC above 1400 (max of 500 rollover SC).
3. I currently have PC until 31 March 2027. I am unclear what happens if I get enough points between now and 8 December 2026 to retain PC again - this would usually have given me until 31 March 2028. The thing I value most about PC is SC earn on award flights.
4. Any points I earn in status credits on the ground in my current year (so from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027) will automatically unlock status credits on the ground at launch.
5. SC on the ground will count to Lifetime status balance - so I might now reach LTP by my late 80s if I maintain current earning patterns .

Looks like the activity statement page has been updated - each category now lists the status credits earned - probably in anticipation of SCs on the ground being handed out on December 8.

And that totally kills off our retention. I think I'm done with worrying about Qantas now. At least MrP is LTG I guess.

I think they need to split the sentence…… I read as:
Credit or charge card rewards points that transferred or converted into Qantas Points - i.e Non Auto Transfer Cards like Amex Platinum Charge card.
And second sentence:
and Bonus points from any Qantas Points earning Credit Cards are excluded. As stated bonus points earnt from Auto transfer cards are excluded.

The site says later in 2027… you can’t assume but you’d think that they would time it based on anniversary date. Otherwise if you’re in the month it changes thinking you were golden at 1200 you’d be in for a rude shock…

Also, be wild for the app to announce you’ve retained it and then find out all of a sudden that you hadn’t. That said, Virgin just took it on the chin and did so…

So auto transfer points are excluded for SC?

Interestingly, mine is slightly different (for membership year ending Sept 2026, currently WP)….

Status Credit rollover looks to only commence for me from next membership year, not this one, and therefore only in excess of the new requal level (1400). And my PC benefits finish this year, not the “one more year”… so it’s kind of “lose-lose” for me.

I knew the option of points for loyalty bonus was going/gone but didn’t realise it was going entirely?

Hmm yes I see. “In 2027 we will be retiring the existing loyalty bonuses that are offered for every 500 status credits…” etc

I’m due to accumulate 470 SC by Christmas and adding an extra 30 wouldn’t be hard, any idea when the cut off for that would be?
