Qantas unveils the biggest changes to status in program history

On the ground SC, if I understood correctly
For members with anniversary beyound 31 Dec 2026, for example 1 Feb 2027, then points earned in Feb 2026 -> 31 Jan 2027 are counting already against the 10 categories. But AFAIK we don't yet have the exact categories definition and t&cs, nor the thresholds of points to reach. I find it frustrating.

My interpretation would be SC's On The Ground would only count from 8 December '26 - 31 Jan '27 🤔

Agree, very frustrating @ChrisMars

At least we have the categories and partners, if no spend/point earning requirement yet.

EDIT: typo

It should be retrospective per this line in the on the ground page:
The points earning activity from your current Membership Year as of 8 December 2026 will count towards Status Credits on the ground when it launches. For some members, this means the points they’re earning ahead of 8 December 2026 will count at launch

At least we have the categories and partners, if no spent/point earning requirement yet.
Thanks, didn't see it before, must have missed it :)

It would make the most sense for Qantas to create their own branded credit card for this proposition and use a white labeled credit card product from an existing provider (i.e. a bank). That way, it will allow Qantas to move their product from one bank to another, without customer disruption, if another bank offers Qantas better terms on the back end white label product.

From that link above

Members will continue to have access to over 30 Qantas Points-earning credit cards and earn rates of up to 1 point per $1 spent, matching what is available in the market today.

Qantas Loyalty has agreed revised commercial terms and extended agreements with its largest banking and financial services partners, ensuring credit cards remain the most effective way for members to earn Qantas Points and unlock rewards. Qantas cards account for approximately 35 per cent of all credit card spend nationally.

Yeah agree, but I was only referring to the CC that is still potentially in development that will allow for SC earn on the ground.

Said cards already exist. Qantas Money Credit Cards, issued by NAB.

Lifetime milestones

This is a bit of a worry - I doubt this is looking at lowering the Lifetime Platinum milestone, so wondering if the Lifetime Gold and Silver targets are going to change - and probably not for the better.

Still on the "on the ground SC", looks like the categories in the SC activity statement maps to the 10 categories (plus "Flights" and "Other"). The counting doesn't take into account exclusion obviously, for example sign up bonus. But that seems to be a good way to keep track.

On the thresholds, it feels like it's still 1000 points, as stated in this Major Qantas Status Changes Coming in 2026 article in Feb 2026.

But excess SC rollover.
Good for those who retain easily. Bad for those who plan to just meet the minimum to retain more or less exactly.

Hmmmm, need more detail. Might need to consider making a run for LTG. Starting to see the finish line for getting that.

I assumed it was referring to the milestones for getting free years of Platinum.

Why is it a worry? The announcement was about the 25k, 35k, 45k, 55k, 65k milestones for bankable WP status year. Don't think there is any sign of LTS / LTG target change.
