I've received 4 emails like this one from Qantas in the past 2 days:

I hadn't received an email like this before, so after getting the first one (and verifying that it was indeed from Qantas), I changed the PIN on my frequent flyer account. But since then I've received 3 more emails, and I'm convinced there's nothing suspicious happening with my account. One came through when Award Wallet did an account update, and the rest were all me. (I'm away from home so maybe it thinks it's suspicious that I'm logging in from a new IP address - although I did enter the 2FA code without issue when logging in.)

My question is - are these alerts a new thing? And is anyone else getting bombarded with alerts for activity that's not really that suspicious?

I can understand why these emails might be useful, but if I keep getting them several times per day I'm going to just start ignoring them.

Have you contacted Qantas on this issue? What has their response been?

I have contacted them to provide feedback, and have not yet received a reply.

If others are having similar issues, I'd encourage them to also provide feedback to Qantas.

Just received one after using my work computer to log in. Ridiculous really given I've used it a gazillion times before and from my home IP address that hasn't changed.

Anyone with a spare couple of hours wanting to phone the Call Centre? Maybe get Cape Town or Manila to have a guess. 🤣

Someone somewhere has broken things recently, just got my first similar email on activity of my own home PC, same IP address and same computer, no changes to Qantas login PINS or security questions or PC configuration and I don't use award wallet at all, so something has changed.

Yep - they've definitely broken something internally - here is the response I got to the "Yes that was me" link in the email.

... from the same mob who think removing Customer Service desks/staff from airports and lounges in preference to using online apps will work out just fine....

btw just on the IP address issue. Yes I am surprised they would give a location but not the IP. I am convinced this is a policy from QF that "too much detail is too much" - I mean same reason they removed years back the booking class from QF displays though to many of it it is a defining thing that matters. Their excuse would be "you don't need to know" (or the cynical would say it's deceptive but I won't get into that bunfight here) and this seems another instance of it. Oh why give that IP address only "nerds" care right? It's enough we give you a location you should know it's you or not. etc

There's a certain mentality out there that suggests "less is more"

I am one that likes all the detail.

Received an e-mail this morning from Qantas telling me there was an unknown login from an IP on VA, United States using Mac OS X and Chrome.

So I went to the QF website, changed my pin, then updated the details in AwardWallet and updated again. It triggered the same e-mail from Qantas..... seems odd that it would report the client as OS X and Chrome but maybe that's the way the scraper works?

Has anyone else experienced this recently? It appears they have.

Also mentioned in this thread but a search of thread titles didn't find that, so thought it useful to have AwardWallet in the title.

To be fair, the op was not sure of the cause when it was posted. Also, there are reports of it happening to people without Awatdwallet.

Just repeating, I only ever, ever, got this alert from qf when using a vpn. And then only recently. So is that something you people are using? Or a work network?

If you using MACX email client, you can find who or mail coming from.

I received four of these emails while using my own computer or iPad at home. First time it asked if I was located in Kewdale. That’s near the airport and I live on the coast. I don’t use Award Wallet. Also received same “ expired link” email after clicking “Yes, it’s me”. Sender gave the QFF address. I haven’t changed my PIN yet, but will now. I’ve not received any more since last week and I have logged in and made several domestic flight and hotel bookings.

There I was thinking this wouldn't happen to me but it just did even though I don't use Award Wallet...

I got the same. Weird, because I use a static IP and always log in from the same location.
Must be QFF security team upping it a notch. Don't want too many people applying for the Gold status challenge expression of interest ;p
