I'm on the same route as you, looking forward to it also. But more looking forward to trying to organise an intro to jb747 if he is at the helm!

does anybody have any pictures from the upgraded experience yet?

would be interesting to see if they are going to expand to MK1 as well, flying on A330 from BKK and 747 to FRA next year

Re: Qantas J class: mattress and duvet - have you been offered yet ?

QF107/108 to start. Other flights will be introduced gradually to ensure a smooth rollout with all flights around December.

The new product is quite nice. No more grey trays. If you eat in the lounge, you can let a lounge host know you want to go to sleep, they advise the crew then after take off a crew member can help make your bed. New mattress and dooner. The dooner is quite large so you can sleep on it and have it over you at the same time for even more padding. Menu is more flexible. On Asia to Australia flights a more simple breakfast service that takes less time to serve, allowing more time to sleep.

Just back to SYD on QF108

About 30-60 min into the flight, FAs come to your seats - unprompted - to put the mattress cover over the top of the existing seat materials.

It is greyish in colour with an elastic band at the top to hold on to the top of the seat.

Quite long too, able to cover the footrest and then some.

About 5-6 mm thick, quite soft quilt-like feel.

The maroon coloured doona is there replacing the usual blanket.

Sleeping wise, it is an improvement on the previous (bare-seat) arrangement.

It is collected again from you after breakfast some 60 min prior to arrival.

+1 from me to QF

Sorry to burst your bubble, but JB has progressed from the 747 to the 380 now;)

Nice - It will also make the seats last longer as it's basically a seat cover as well :)

Have a QF93 in Dec and QF108 in Jan, J class, so this is really well timed!

Any photos yet?

Apologies for the delay all...harder to get to a computer on holidays than I remember (more lack of want than access!).

Can confirm legroom's comments. We were literally the first pax to get this experience. The mattress is like the doona in terms of thickness - but ample nonetheless. Comes rolled up. The one observation I had was that by design, once attached, you can no longer adjust the headrest. This was bothersome because I like to watch TV lying down and pull the adjustable rest forward - but couldn't with the mattress on. Small issue though and an extra pillow did the trick. The only other observation was that the mattress and doona make for a much warmer experience and the cabin temperature probably needs turning down a bit to compensate as I was quite hot during the night. Overall, a great improvement.

I have some pics, I just need to upload them from my iphone.

The food service changes are good too - more personalised and makes better use of the table space than the tray did.

Can you still adjust the seat with the mattress on top of it, like get more in a lounging state?

Looking forward to the pics ;)

Interesting the comments about the temperature. I always find the aircraft are too hot, and particularly when flying on the A380 in F as the sheepskin mattress and doona are far too hot. Hopefully they get some feedback to turn the temperature down!

Last time I wandered down for a walk on the 380 I noticed that it was way hotter downstairs than upstairs.

Last trip on BA pax in the front of the aircraft were complaining to the FAs that it was too hot and pax in the back were complaining it was too cold. I wonder how much control the FAs have overall

I usually always wake up roasting when sleeping in J

Thinking about it Singapore Airlines I don't though!

The pilots have control of the air temp don't they?

Here's the pictures as promised. Sorry, I don't know why they have loaded upside down and sideways...nor can I work out how to fix it!

Thanks MarcB, how do you fix the top of the mattress is it with an elastic band or something like that? Can't see why this wouldn't work on a Skybed MI...
