The remaining A380 flights from MEL-LAX will be replaced with the 787 from late October.

So there will be a QF First Class lounge in MEL with no QF F seats available on QF metal to anywhere from MEL

I must say this is very disappointing, but I can’t say I’m that surprised.

Air Sydney (some times know as Qantas) made the announcement some days ago (26 Feb)

No announcement made, changes in GDS

An article in the AFR yesterday suggested it was in response to the current situation in the Middle East, so interesting they had the foresight to make the change in February!

The sudden lack of seats between Europe and Australia through the Middle East has sent airfares soaring.

In response, Qantas said it was moving an Airbus A380 off the Sydney-Los Angeles route to the Sydney-Singapore service amid higher demand for flights to Asia.

As a Plat I can only say I hope QF continues to operate an F lounge in MEL for as long as I remain a Plat.
Last time I was through MEL F in January, i asked the staff and they basically said that they're open in the late evenings for all the partner flights after all QF flights have departed.

They have to be making a reasonable amount for partner OWE to keep it open at midnight. Lounge was quiet but did have a reasonable amount of guests at midnight.

Presumably the lounge also supports F passengers travelling on Emirates, on either QF or EK code (up to 30 per day). But we all know it's all about WP's/OWE's. Otherwise they would only have ever needed an F closet.

I was pretty much told it was for partner OWE after the last QF flight departs. Theres a handful of late night OW departures ar MEL.

I think there’s more chance of BNE gaining an F lounge than MEL losing one.
If Sunrise is an overwhelming success there’s maybe a small but not zero chance QF might consider doing some Sunrise flights from BNE too. It depends on how many QF are able to win back who have been flying other airlines vs taking passengers off one stop existing routes

If they added Sunrise flights from BNE then a F Lounge would be a possibility.

I'm still confused about where the A380s have been taken off / to
As far as I'm aware Dallas is going back to 380 x3 week; LAX ex SYD is going back to 380 x6 week; MEL loses 380 entirely...and the only new route is an extra rotation up to SIN ex SYD which only requires 1 airframe. I think they'll have at least 1 spare by my calcs but could be wrong.

SYD - SIN QF82, i believe that is seeing an increase in frequency to daily a380. I also wouldn't be surprised if they want to keep "an operational spare" with how many issues the 380 has.

they could probably up JNB to near daily too if my back-of-envelope calcs are right

some Perth love would be nice too
I feel that's to do with PER airport issues. If they've truly gotten past it and have long term agreements we might see more investment in PER given QF wants to turn it into a Gateway hub as well.
