Qantas to Remove Domestic Boarding Pass Printing from Kiosks

As mentioned up thread multiple times the service hubs can still print BP’s if needed. So if you desperately wanted a piece of paper you could ask (or have a flat phone)
sure, but it still potentially adds work to already busy staff that they shouldn't have to do, and adds annoyance to the customer imo.

For Encryptededdy, what happened in the end?
The machine allowed me to check in even though the website and app didn't allow me to do OLCI, which is good.

However I'm concerned if the machines lose the ability to check me in, I wouldn't be able to do this in the future without visiting a check-in desk (of which there's only one or two...)

Saw the news article that some QF airport staff with a bit of pity are even taking those chairs on wheels, for customers to sit while they wait and wait for the call centre people to answer queries, or to answer calls.
Lucky you were able to check in, in the end.

Sure. I suppose.

I guess the numbers have been run and since my 86 year old grandma has and can use a smartphone, that those exceptions will not as frequent as you think.

Who knows. We will see when they roll out if it is a major disaster or not.

To me it's not about the number of exceptions/people that will have trouble, it's more a discussion about what kind of services a full service carrier should provide to customers. I just don't see how a full service, so-labelled premium airline can make these decisions.

I think you wildly overestimate the technological skills of people in the 60+ age bracket. Your grandmother is the exception, not the rule.

I didn’t make any estimations so I’m not sure what you are referring to. Wrong post?

Personally I don’t like to assume peoples capability actually, I don’t think that’s fair. I work in health and we use a lot of remote health tech devices that rely on the ability of the patient to use a smartphone (just the basics - text and click a link to open something). A huge number of older Australians have inherited hand me down iPhones and have been taught by their family the basics.

You literally said 'I guess the numbers have been run and since my 86 year old grandma has and can use a smartphone, that those exceptions will not as frequent as you think.'

This weekend, a QF flight I was on was cancelled at the last minute due to the aircraft going tech. The announcement over the PA system was to 'refresh your Qantas app and you'll see a new boarding pass for a new flight. If you do not have the Qantas app, please see me at the counter.' Of the ~200 people waiting at the gate, ~75 lined up to wait for the poor gate attendant to issue them with new BPs.

A couple of weeks ago on entering the SYD J lounge whilst in transit I had the app open but it had refreshed since disembarking my prior flight and wouldn't load my trip and therefore no BP to scan for entry. I had no changes to my trip. I showed the entry staff the app with the loading icon and my QFF card, in which she scanned it and then printed out and handed me a physical BP.

I have the app and use it the most for check in and boarding, but I find it refreshes and stops loading and does not display BPs all too frequently and moreso when flights on your current trip are cancelled or rescheduled.

Mine does this too. There is a simple solution for this and I'm surprised the app developers haven't thought of it. All they need is to store each BP as an image on your phone, that way even if the app fails you can just access it from Photos. I do this manually but it would be trivial for the app devs to track each flight and if there's a new one, store the BP image.

Of course there will be exceptions such as cancellations and flight changes while you have no connectivity but in most cases it would be helpful.

I think you may be confused 😂 - I haven’t run the numbers. Clearly someone at the airlines has though run the numbers and deemed it acceptable. Hence why I said the numbers had been run and I chucked in my example about my grandma because she’s a legend!

You've made an understandable, albeit rookie, error. What is deemed acceptable to Qantas management is not even remotely close to what is acceptable to Qantas customers. Check the call centre thread if you need confirmation of that fact.

I didn’t say it was acceptable. I just said that someone had clearly run the numbers and deemed it acceptable… You seem to be confused, again.

If that is your opinion then just express your own view, no one will judge you for having your own opinion on here! (well much 😂)
