Hi all just wanted to share my recent travels . I travel to ROK (Korea) regularly and clearly would prefer to use my Platinum privileges with Qantas. Sadly like many places our national carrier does not include Korea but has some arrangement with Asiana. I tried Asiana once that was enough. So it QF to Hong Kong and CX to Incheon. The wait can be a real pain as QF gets into HK around 5pm and CX does not have a convenient connection. Stay in HK for the night or wait 6 hours and get the 1am flight into Incheon. The new QF lounge is very very good I would recommend it. The CX lounges at HK are excellent too so no hardship suffered there. HK airport is not as great as it once was noticeably many of the shops have closed , it was never cheap anyway! Incheon airport is very good very efficient and clean.

At the risk of being called a Qantas basher our routes with the National carrier seem to be ever diminishing and you become reliant on other One World carriers at least around Asia. Not too long ago we could get Qantas flights to many more ports.

One comment on the QF service to Hong Kong, out of Sydney at least the last three times it has been on a A380. Two times business one time cattle class. My observation to Qantas is the A380 is a cold aircraft in PE and Upstairs economy on two occasions now extra blankets were issued given it is an overnight flight. The A380 is good to fly in but can be very noisy downstairs and in my recent experience cold upstairs. I find the A330 to be a barely adequate for longer hauls and compared to the 777 a poor second in comfort.

You can also do QF21/JL951 via NRT. 4 hours shorter then going via HKG.

I have flown OZ to ICN and CX/QF back to SYD.
I actually enjoyed the service and food in J on OZ but I wouldn't be game to do the return trip overnight on the sloping beds.

They probably use non-refurbished planes to SYD. I flew BKK-ICN return last year in OZ A330 and the beds were very comfortable. I was also very impressed by the food and service.
Let's hope they will upgrade the planes to SYD soon and then problem solved.

Agree. Flew back on OZ last October and was very disappointed with their steeply angled bed and very sub standard IFE.

If only they had their new Quadrium(?) seats to Sydney I'd be tempted to try them out.

Flying Quadrium seats LHR-ICN in a couple of months then crappy sloping beds back to SYD so will be sure to report on whether they're acceptable. Am planning to sleep first leg so hopefully the slope won't be too much of a problem for casual napping.

I think ICN-SYD is to OZ as SYD-HNL is to QF. A tourist route primarily.

Vinomofo is the best wine deals site on the planet. Good wines, real people and epic deals, without all the bowties and bs.
