After years of fractious negotiations, Qantas will move its main Perth operations to Airport Central where it will construct a new WA headquarters.

The impending announcement, revealed by Radio 6PR, has been held up while the Department of Home Affairs finalises passenger screening arrangements.

The long-running dispute between the airport and Qantas has been resolved, with both parties aiming to be operating by 2030, five years later than the original plan.

Just six months ago, the Australian Financial Review reported Qantas was resisting pressure from the airport and government to make the move.

Once the deal is finalised, it is understood additional international direct flights connecting Perth with Jakarta and Johannesburg will be able to take off immediately, well ahead of Qantas’ new facilities.

Qantas’ extensive business servicing the state’s mining sector may remain at the general aviation terminal near Terminals 3 and 4.

Will be interesting to see if said CGK / JNB flight will use T3 or T1….

Presumably T3 for now (same as SIN) and then move to T1 when a new terminal is built? Perhaps we’ll see another Euro destination via PER get announced? Wasn’t CDG on the table at one point?

The seasonal JNB departed out of T3, arrived into T1 while CGK didnt commence due issues with border force out of T3 for higher risk countries.....

Correct CDG was on the table, although QF would rather go daily and the current bilateral allows for 3 or 4 weekly. (Not sure there are any 787s for this until the A350s arrive anyway). Guessing there will be cuts to short haul A330 schedule to allow for JNB.....

They were talking about CDG independent of Sunrise (A350), so presumably they had some idea how to swing the assets accordingly?

I wouldn’t be surprised if PER-JNB flies as a min on days the SYD-JNB A380 doesn’t operate (as the route goes from daily to 4-6 times per week). That would still give daily options for east coast/ADL PAX. The same A330 from MEL/SYD-PER then onto JNB might be attractive to some?

I did see it mentioned a fair while ago and I also saw QF's belated submission to the Senate review of international air services agreements. In it they noted the limitations on them and used the very old agreeent with France as a severe limitation on services.

CDG would probably work well as a seasonal service (like FCO), but so many euro destinations are highly seasonal. Im not sure CDG would work in european winter. I would have thought FRA would have stronger business links.

The France Mainland bilateral allows for 3.0 "units" per week. A "unit" is based on the amount of seats on the aircraft operating the flight. An aircraft with over 400 seats (or any model of 747) is 1 unit - this is where the claim that they are only allowed to fly to Paris 3 times a week comes from.
The QF 787 config of 236 seats falls into the range of 0.5 units (0.6 units starts from 240 seats). Thus a QF 787-9 would be allowed to fly to Paris 6 times/week.
 
Also suggesting CDG back on the table (along with CGK and JNB).

Pity the moves still a few years away but when it happens, PER will probably be one of the better airports in Oz?
