Qantas to fast track airline loyalty program status

Can we be sure if another US airline offered a match that they wouldn't check to make sure you'd actually earned it and/or exclude Frontier? Bought Frontier status wouldn't qualify for the current QF match, for example, on either of those counts.

You'd use Frontier to match into a US airline. Not Qantas.
Forget Qantas! Use the partners who are ALWAYS more generous!

Here's an option for you.........

1. Use your Velocity Platinum to match into Frontier Airlines Elite 100k status (top-tier) at www.frontierstatusmatch.com (there is a US $349 fee)
2. In 3....6...9 months from now, another US airline will offer a match. Use your new Frontier 100K status to match into that new airline
3. Use that new US airline status in Oz!

Effectively, you'd be buying future status for $349. Good deal in my opinion.
That's a fair bit of faffing about I really can't be bothered with TBH

I got more than enough SC for Gold in VA in my own right via flying. I presume through this process there will be an opportunity to present any further evidence/explain accordingly.

Tempted to apply, and also for the Qantas Premier Platinum card. 100k points ($4k spend), 75 bonus status credits & $199 fee, and a one way max JQ flight to Perth would have me over the line. Would be a bit of a gamble though as the offer for the QF credit card ends on Nov 30. Offer has been extended through Feb 2021.

It might turn out that QF are quite selective who they actually give this offer to. They clearly state this by signing up it is only an expression of interest. They might just be looking to cherry pick people who they think will actually spend with the airline.

Maybe, but the offer of earning SC to keep the status without even leaving the ground leads me to believe this will be a pretty wide net.

I've applied even though I got the Qatar platinum status match. I won't be able to maintain the Qatar platinum status due to border closures and not being able to travel abroad but can easily hit the 100 status credits for the flights I intend to take over the next few months. I'm done with Velocity. Cashed out the remainder of the points and kept the 500k flybuys points stockpiled.Worse case I'll cash them in for an iPad or iPhone. Best case I'll use it with flybuys travel or maybe flybuys will pair up with another airline down the track..

Too bad the fast track doesn't include Platinum status, so won't really benefit people who got VA Platinum and matched to QR Platinum earlier this year.
There's not a lot of difference at the moment between WP and SG

Qantas should publish an article "How to run a lacklustre customer acquisition campaign" with this promotion as a prime example.

Qantas missed all key points in acquiring new top-tier elites.

$10 says this fizzes out within a day.
Virgin is clear cut. As for the others, I guess they're counting on those based in Australia who can't travel with their foreign airline and want status while they're confined to Australia - and hoping they'll keep it when the borders reopen. Note they did not offer any matches to other oneworld airlines.

It's not open to non-Australian residents, so this is mostly about Virgin.

Qatar will probably extend your Platinum status for free.
Even if they don't - they do soft landings to Gold... (I think?)

For anyone thinking of applying to this Qantas thing - just remember - airlines may not say it, but generally it's a ONE-TIME-THING.
Only apply if you plan to never ever ask Qantas for a status match ever again!

Just reading the small print on the Qantas Premier Plat credit card: footnote 5 right at the bottom says:-

"Bonus Status Credits will not contribute towards any Loyalty Bonuses, any Platinum or Platinum One Bonus Rewards, or any Qantas Status Accelerator"

Does that mean 100SC offer is out for this card?

Interesting to see they are excluding those who've used velocity family pooling to achieve status! Will be keen to know if they enforce that as I fall in to that category

If I have been gifted my status with another airline or achieved it with the assistance of Status Credit pooling, am I still eligible for the Qantas Status Fast Track?
No, only members who have earned the eligible status from flying the qualifying airline and achieved that airline’s published earn requirements are eligible. Status received from gifting, through pooling of Status Credits or complimentary status does not qualify.

Yes, I'm interested in how tightly they evaluate that criteria.

one way max JQ flight to Perth
That idea would have me running in the opposite direction!
Perhaps QF also want to retest the world record for ‘how many pax can we squeeze into any given Qantas pub/zoo’.
Relieved to see a ‘crowding in the lounge’ comment, life is coming back to normal. :) With this, and the remarkably generous rollover offer, and all the DSC vouchers being handed out, I can see this being a problem in a year or two. Already the lounge offering in BNE, SYD and PER will be back to normal from early Dec. And with limited competition from VA 2.0 it would be easier for QF to concoct new restrictions to lounge access.

The 18 month rule might be a bit of a limiting factor for some. My flying for the last 8 months has been 0, and for several months before that I had limited SCs after I had requalified. This was QF but others might have a similar pattern with others.

cheers skip

No brainer.

These idiots at Tiger#2 have stuffed around for months and got nowhere. As of today on the cusp of December the big month for flying, ONE lounge open nationally and when you survive that, instant noodles and water in a plastic cup Biz Class and no WiFi even, to console yourself with, and somehow pass the time.

There will be no-one on their planes except folks frantically burning miles. The unfortunate ones with significant balances who did not move them all to Singapore Airlines 6 months back.

Want LOW PRICE -- book Jetstar. No way are Tiger#2 fares remotely attractive to anywhere. No-one sane will book Virgin right now with money, and money is what they are lacking. If Qantas is technically insolvent, Tiger 2 are in far worse shape.

American Ms Hardlikr and her American bosses will loss their shirts on this bad move. They have totally given away their Business base due to cost cutting, and no way will they book Virgin, and lost most of their leisure flyer base at the same time, as ticket costs are sky high.

Are they having real sales to fill their half full panes - NO.

@ozstamps , you don't have to pass judgment for those who did not transfer to SQ...

Well I did urge it very heavily at the time, and the ongoing wails from those Kool Aid loyalists who did not bother, are still there for all to see. Dumber than dirt, (IMHO!) anyone who missed that window, history shows us. We all make choices in life.

I'll be sitting in lie flat beds on Singapore Airlines to Europe a few times, and that was my choice for my million+ Virgin miles.

I lost the lot in the Ansett collapse, before many of the current loyalists and cheer squad were born, and have sadly seen it all before.

A toaster or a hairdryer etc is what they now ended up with - if they were fast.

Back to the topic - this match make sense for all Virgin Elites. :D

I predicted a month or so back exactly this was likely in the wings, and most of the Genius Brigade said Qantas would ''never do it''.

Correct?

Smart move Qantas - this costs them zero basically, and steals a lot of wavering Virgin Elites away. While these totally clueless new kids on the block there are still figuring got to add back WiFi, and open up key city Lounges, and getting rid of Instant Noodles in Biz Class etc.

Tiger#2 - it is all yours. 😁
