Qantas thanks its most loyal customers

You don't need to take up the offer really. It applies to flights already booked. I'd also say this offer is to reward those who fly every week, not once a year a christmas. Those domestic weekly flyers are the ones who where potentially impacted the most. Remember we are still waiting for something for those international flyers who were disrupted - assuming it isn't double SC to HKG (a fairly limited offer)

I say 75% chance there is more to come targeted at other groups.

So the offer doesn't even apply to new bookings? It gets worse. We fly every week, just not that much in the weeks before Christmas. And because of the dispute we have been making bookings as close to possible to the departure date in case the flight suddenly gets cancelled and we are left in the lurch.

I tend to agree, that this doesn't really favour many

yes, agree with that.

How about rewarding those that have booked through the 'turmoil' period without a concern that Qantas was still going to be there!? Now that is what I'd consider loyalty!

Yes, well, some of our bookings we had to be with Qantas because of the route. We had flights cancelled leaving us scrambling to get on Virgin. And then on to the second leg with Qantas. So we had to collect luggage in Sydney from the Virgin carousel and then recheck in again with Q to get the second leg of the trip done. But those one sector trips we mostly booked with Virgin.

Don't get me wrong but I just get frustrated when people throw in one liners without offering an alternate.
You mean the ones that want something for nothing?

I agree that 90 days would probably be more appropriate.
I would have loved it to have been 90 days as well as I have another buckload of flights in January and February but I am quite happy with this offer. I did not ask for anything and I got something.

My understanding it is on any flights taken within the period, regardless of when they are booked:

Today, Qantas celebrates 91 years of flying and it is our pleasure to offer you, as a Platinum Frequent Flyer, Double Frequent Flyer points for all eligible* Qantas flights (with a QF flight number on your ticket) for travel between 16 November 2011 and 23 December 2011.

doesn't say at all that it had to be already booked. in fact red roo made a comment that flights taken that day were counted too.

It actually says in the original email that flights already booked count.

Ahh yes it did too!

And to thank you for your support throughout the recent disruption, eligible flights already booked for this travel period will qualify for the same bonus points. No registration is required and points will be credited to your account after travel.

Can't be bothered catching up on this thread, but if anyone is interested bonus points are credited seperatley and can take up to 6 weeks to credit (existing booking in my case).

I guess for some the glass is always half empty.
For me it's equivalent to a free upgrade on BNE -Perth next week. (extra points just about 10k which is the one way upgrade price). I'd be happy enough with that, but add on a couple of J trips to South America and Europe and my glass overflows....

FFS! Did I say that?! Read the first post in the thread! I clearly says it applies to new and existing bookings!!!!!!!!

Completely frustrating that you've totally missed the point I was making and gone off on the completely wrong tangent.

Refer to post 257. Straitman never said or even implied that. That is your invention. I think you have the proverbial 'bee in your bonnet'
Generally the ones wanting something for nothing are the ones that complain the most with these type of offers. And yes I have done a lot of the complaining recently on other issues. Big deal.

I believe I am loyal Qantas customer and I am getting something extra for my loyalty. I will say it over and over. I am glad that loyal Qantas flyers are being rewarded for their loyalty and I am extremely glad that this was not a targetted Double SCs only offer for the next 38 days and only new bookings count.

You said it applied to flights already booked. I think you need to settle down, this is just an internet forum where lots of points are raised and discussed. No need to get completely frustrated, a corrective statement would suffice.

I'd say you jumped the gun on thinking it only applied to existing bookings and not new bookings if you read your post again....

On the topic of loyalty we have to also consider loyalty to the program as much as loyalty to the airline. If I fly CX to JED it is because of my loyalty to the QFF program rather than my love of CX. QFF earn money when I fly CX and credit to QFF and based on 2500 SCs last year I am pretty loyal to the QFF program...

This make me chuckle. Loyalty to a loyalty program :) You already get the ability to upgrade, redeem flights and buy stuff from the shop. That's the quid pro quo.

And I doubt QF makes much money when you fly on CX and credit to QFF - maybe a few dollars. 2500SCs (after taking into account the cost of providing the benefits) might not be profitable for QF at all.

But this is the challenge and a face of things to come IMHO.
Qantas seem to be going down this path with reduced direct flights and more partner agreements. So we'd have to presume this is more profitable vs operating the routes themselves.

So to my thinking, if QF expand their partnership agreements and fly less QF metal, then they just need to make it work and suck it up.

I have to disagree with I think what you are saying. Given that I have earned 95% of my points this year through flying I think QFF have earned a fair amount from me in the same way that they would earn from someone spending $250K on a QFF linked credit card - probably more I would expect because of the other benefits SCs fund.

QFF is a profitable business - if they didnt make money from me crediting flights to their program then they wouldnt bother rewarding me for it.

Because the original post only said "it applied to existing bookings" then I assumed it didn't apply to bookings made after the announcement. ie it only applied retrospectively. My bad.
