I'd say it's fairly immaterial. Since air crew would have to self-isolate for 14 days if they fly into Australia, I predict there will be almost no international flights after midnight tonight.

Interesting that it is being handled this way. I had thought that crew would be at risk due to working on numerous flights, over a period of time, and coming into contact with many people in the process. Having said that, I read somewhere that there is no evidence of in-flight transmission.

Maybe there was special waiver issued for airline crew?

Edit: So would that be how NZ is handling it for arriving crew?

The Australian Government says:
"Pilots and airline crew on active duty are exempt from isolation requirements so long as the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and layover requirements set out in this fact sheet are adhered to."

A similar policy applies for NZ in that crew are exempt.

If crew were not exempt, airlines would be shutting down within days. Sadly, I think we will be seeing some major cancellations in the coming days.

i would urge caution for anyone considering a 'voucher' instead of a cash refund (if eligible for the latter). Reduced capacity could drive fares up, and the restrictions on use of the voucher may lead to greatly increased costs and/or reduced flexibility at a later stage.

Not to mention the risk that any voucher may be for an airline that may no longer exist in 6 months time. If groundings and disruption turn out to be long term.

But yes - the return of capacity will be tightly controlled and I would expect that yield managers will attempt sky high fares, plus the loss of competitors in the market will undoubtably put upwards pressure on airfares.

I expect once the coronavirus pandemic is over some airlines will try to raise capital from investors. That may help some survive.

My sister is flying QF 1 back to LHR today.checked her seat assignment over the weekend and saw it had been changed to 3A.Thought she had scored an upgrade to F.Turns out QF 1 to SIN today is an A330.Has same seat through to LHR.She is not happy.

Bummer.

While I usually travel Y (or more correctly discount or sale Y) I'm very fortunate to be able to sleep pretty well in the QF Y seats. My only real gripe about Y is where I have a pax in front who insists on reclining their seat immediately the seat belt light is off for the whole flight!

Do you really need it back to watch a movie?
