Qantas Sydney International Business Lounge Refresh

Glad I'm a WP and can access the FLounge at the moment and for at least most of the J Lounge renovation time, but good to see that they'll be renovating the J Lounge.

Would have preferred them to do MEL International J first, but then I'd want them to move MEL J to a space with natural light (can't see that happening with the refurbishment of the domestic lounges leading to a QANTAS Club without natural light).

Agreed that I would have thought MEL (and indeed AKL) were more needing the upgrade, but possibly waiting for different space, lease agreements etc

I've never been to the MEL J lounge but multiple times to Syd's. Is it even worse for wear vs Syd?

The subject is a little misleading.. could it be modified to specify international? I actually thought domestic! :)

I expect the domestic SYD lounges and international J lounge in MEL can't be too much further down the priority list, but we'll see.

I'd agree. There's a capex limit which naturally slows the pace of loungework, and if you'd asked me just last week to place a bet I'd have suggested SYD domestic lounge to follow MEL, but either/or works fine, as long as the SYD domestic lounges and MEL's international J dungeon get their share of love. One would like to think they'd all be done by Qantas' 100th anniversary, but SYD being the flagship and all that, that's where you'd expect the money to flow.

FWIW, I'm told that Qantas had plans to give SYD INT J a make-over for quite some time, but after Accor took over lounge ops the NPS ratings saw quite an uplift and there was a feeling that if customers were happy enough as things were, the refurb could wait...

Of course the HBA domestic closet lounge got its sandwich maker last year, so as far as Qantas is concerned, that's its share of capex for the next 10 years.

You'll have your toasted ham, cheese and tomato sanger and you'll damn well be grateful for it!
(And of course, if it's an 'NP concept' toasted sanger it'll be Gruyère cheese)

What the HBA lounge needs is for the terminal to be expanded allowing for a larger lounge space. Not much that they can do with the limited space available in HBA. QF needs the owners of the airport to be willing to spend a lot of money to expand the airport. The HBA lounge is a disgrace but it’s not just QF’s fault. The seating area alone should be at least twice as large, if not more imo.

At least in SYD there’s already decent size lounge spaces for QF to work with. If there wasn’t then the lounge renovations would likely take a lot longer than they’re planning.

"Our Business lounge in Sydney is one of the most visited on the international network" - I wonder what the most visited one is? Don't know if they would consider LAX int J as one of "theirs".

I've never been to the SYD int J, only QF F and the SQ F lounge in SYD, hoping it stays that way...

That's a very interesting observation. I would have expected SYD J to be, because of the sheer number fo QF/JQ and OW flights out of Sydney. If I was Qantas I'd count LAX J as 'mine' so maybe this exceeds SYD J..?

As I potentially will fall down the status ladder in the coming years, it will be less of a shock to the system dealing with J lounges instead of my steady diet of F lounges. Bring on the upgrade.
